Citizen Science Commons & RRI

Dear Ann,
We worked on a proposal called « Citizen Science Commons Proposal » (attached hearafter)
Indeed, I think this has something to do with RRI, and I would be glad if you could join us on this issue

Dear all,

I haven't been able to join the meeting, but I have followed every minute of the streaming. Congratulations for this fantastic event,

It has greatly inspired me for my work on 'Responsible' R&I policies, and I would certainly like to share those ideas and proposals with the commons community. In brief, we are testing the hypothesis that for R&I to contribute to solutions for the big challenges of today, it should be conceived as 'Commons Oriented Responsible R&I'. We are also investigating what 'infrastructure' this would require, and what 'business models' would allow these 'CO-RRI hubs' to function at a decentralised level.

The EU makes large budgets available for R&I, so this could be a serious leverage for strengthening the commons. Also, the EU is seriously looking into the question how to organise R&I in such a way that it takes on (more) 'responsibility' towards society, yet the ideas on that are still rather vague, incremental at the best.

So please can you add my name and contact data to the 'participants list' (even though I participated only virtually)? Thanks !!!

Hi Ismaël,

thank you so much for your proposal ! We should definitely join forces, and I agree that R&I is a strong leverage for the commons as EU invests a lot in it.

I just had a quick look at your document. What I like is that it starts from a radically bottom-up approach to science. Citizen science is too often limited to involving citizens as 'data collectors'.

In the project I work on (FoTRRIS - "Fostering a Transition towards Responsible Research and Innovation Systems"), we propose to embed existing research institutions in this 'societal engagement' approach, because they are a very strong leverage too. It does require a radical change of culture in the government of those institutions though (there are other EU-funded RRI-projects working on that, such as NUCLEUS).

I hereby enclose a text that describes our vision of how this commons oriented RRI could be embedded. We still have a lot of work to do, especially on the 'business model' of the hubs we propose. So all ideas and input are welcome !

Hi, just wondering if, following our vote to take some time to revise proposals before publishing them on the wiki, if the citizen's science proposal will be one of the ones we publish. Would be interesting to hear from @ismaelsene especially
