Tēnā tātau - few diff convos flying around on a few different platforms, but it's been suggested we try for a zoom sometime next week to further get to know each other and discuss the [largely administrative] points below. All welcome! (and see the poll for options about when to have that zui...starting suggestion is next thursday 22 Sept around 7pm, but it is flexible)

1. Internal processes. For times we need to act as a group (as below), how will we do it? Consensus (all agree or abstain?) or majority wins or.... [your suggestion]...

2. Resolving the loomio bottleneck. Long story short, Loomio costs money to have more than 100 members. Because of the origins of this loomio group discussing a food sovereignty charter, we are already all full up - but many people are inactive or MIA, and others want to join. In order to make space, we need to collectively figure out a process for asking inactive member if they wish to stay or go (and if they don't reply, how long to give them etc). Not that hard, but important we be transparent and collective about it.

3. Whether to stay with loomio or shift to a different platform. I personally find this kaupapa so dry lol but important to make sure our platform is both a) accessible and b) functional for what we want to do. Sure we can figure it out quickly enough :)

Ok growing pains cause I'm a loomio rookie, but it looks like you can't suggest times in a poll, only vote for existing ones... so if people want to suggest alternative times in this thread then we can make a poll and go from there..

Kia ora all, few minutes from last night's first online meeting in the attached doc; key summary below :)

Present:

• Niva, Urs, Tāne, Helen, Phil, Michael (hosted zoom), Aaron, Dan K (facilitation/minutes – if I’ve misrepresented anything, let me know and I will correct! Don’t expect this much every time lol)

Summary:

• A round of introductions, sharing some background and our hopes for what the nascent space of AFAA could become - loads of great stuff here.

• Discussion round on process: how do we want to make decisions as an alliance?

  • Resolution: consensus model the goal. Actions as an alliance to proceed via polls in Loomio. Those interested can answer; those silent assumed to be ok/agnostic/ambivalent. Strong opposition can block action but needs to have reasons listed and be willing to engage. Process to update as necessary as we evolve and grow.

• Also discussed: story-telling / illuminating food action that is happening (e.g., via a podcast or local radio, or through stories in Stone Soup); whether to meet more regularly; how to get around the free 100 person limit on Loomio/whether to also have a Discord server; the significance of class and colonisation and politics as a key point of difference for AFAA.

  • Resolution: regular calls to happen on the third Thursday of every month at 7pm. No expectation of attendance; those who can, do. Potential for an alternate daytime call for those who can’t make evenings raised, but not yet formalised (so if you’re keen, jump in the comments!)

Nice work @Dan K ...sounds like a brilliant way to ground our intention for a flat decision making structure.

I am a little limited in being able to attend online gatherings, Sun-Wed most weeks I am parenting.

However, if we can stick to Thursday 22nd @ 7pm then I can offer to host the zui on my unrestricted Zoom account.
