Maximum order size - go up to 70?

EM Elaine Mayo Public Seen by 18

Three Hubs have asked to increase the size of their orders. This raises questions:

(1) Can theShop cope? Yes - they would prefer bigger orders over more hubs.

(2) Can the Packing Centre Cope with larger orders? This only impacts on the Dispatch Room - a solution may be that large orders must be processed as two orders (eg Riccarton A 35, Riccarton B 28)

(3) Can the Packing Centre cope with growth beyond say 700 orders? A Packing Centre huddle met last Friday - we think "yes". It could involve one packing shift from 8:30 to 10 and another from 10 to 11:30 but that would be easier than setting up another entire packing centre. We can work the logistics. This would not prevent a new hub starting up in our "void" around Barrington St .

(4) Is is good for the Neighbourhood Hubs (wasn't Mike's vision to foster small groups so that everyone could walk to their local?). The Hubs that are asking are Church Groups and Whanau groups - in both situations the networking is there already.

(5) What else could cause a problem?

Let's discuss - with the idea of having a proposal for our next Executive Committee meeting.

Our main problem is packers, and providing packers for 2 shifts would be a problem. We used to pack more orders in one shift, so it should be do-able.

I find that I have to allow more numbers as some of my increases have been because the timelimit to pickup does not suit many of my new orders so their frends send them to me I even have people coming to me that live close to other hubs

Agree as per my comments noted within the discussion thread.

All we need to do is grow steadily - if one hub is having problems with finding packers then maybe we seek help in finding people who would support that hub. We have a growing number of "freelance supporters"

I am happy with that as long as the packing centre can ensure that the hub pack area in the back hall can be organised in such a way as to ensure there are no, or at least, very few, errors. Having 70 packs will take a lot more room as they can't be stacked on top of each other, and it will take longer for hubs to empty their 'space' in the hall. And until the 'space' is empty the next hub's packs cannot be placed there - this seems to be how errors in pack numbers occur from time to time. Has this been addressed or thought through by the packing centre 'organisers;?

The dispatch room should be able to cope, all they will have to do is move the floor tapes over a bit to cope for the ones who get bigger. It's not like every hub is going to go up over night :)

I agree with the proposal that CSFVC increase the maximum order size to 70 per hub. As noted in other comments provided the Packing Working Group put a procedure in place to cope with the increase in order numbers to ensure there are minimal order errors and spoilage the increase in numbers should be a smooth introduction. It would also be reasonable to expect that hubs that increase their order numbers provide an appropriate amount of packers or provide additional support on the admin side of CSFVC.
