Maximum order size - go up to 70?

EM Elaine Mayo Public Seen by 18

Three Hubs have asked to increase the size of their orders. This raises questions:

(1) Can theShop cope? Yes - they would prefer bigger orders over more hubs.

(2) Can the Packing Centre Cope with larger orders? This only impacts on the Dispatch Room - a solution may be that large orders must be processed as two orders (eg Riccarton A 35, Riccarton B 28)

(3) Can the Packing Centre cope with growth beyond say 700 orders? A Packing Centre huddle met last Friday - we think "yes". It could involve one packing shift from 8:30 to 10 and another from 10 to 11:30 but that would be easier than setting up another entire packing centre. We can work the logistics. This would not prevent a new hub starting up in our "void" around Barrington St .

(4) Is is good for the Neighbourhood Hubs (wasn't Mike's vision to foster small groups so that everyone could walk to their local?). The Hubs that are asking are Church Groups and Whanau groups - in both situations the networking is there already.

(5) What else could cause a problem?

Let's discuss - with the idea of having a proposal for our next Executive Committee meeting.

I think that we can cope with groups raising the order numbers up to 70 as if you rember last year our total orders were nearly 1000 and we coped OK without making splitting the groups also John needs to have hall cleaned up and washed and dried before 1:30 as there is indoor bowls there on wednesdays

I think its an awesome idea, if packing centre can accommodate that amount without any real issues I support the idea. I do however suggest that we reform the space in second hall to ensure that no soft fruit damage was incurred due to two bags being stacked on top of each other; repeated occurrence of this increases the spoilage number.

It sounds completely feasible to me.

It sounds very feasible and there shouldn't be any need to do the orders in 2 shifts, we managed to do almost 1000 orders last year in one go. Also, it's not like every group is going to go up to 70 orders over night.

I can't see any problem except the counting of the packs when they are in hall. Currently with a maximum of 50 there are regular mistakes with the number of packs hubs take home. It would take more space to place 70 packs in one area, and also longer to clear the space for each hub. I agree with Shilo, that we need to ensure that packs are only placed down gently, in a single layer. Packing room wise I think it will be no problem, however in the second hall there may need to be some tweaking, or an extra person to assist, to ensure no errors.

We agreed to raise the maximum order to 70. The suggestion is that we will not set a maximum number at all and simply monitor the growth carefully. We need to think about how to support Hubs that cannot get enough packers.

Why do we need a limit. Let each hub set the number their hub can deal with.

if hubs are expanding who are we to hamper them, it's about trying to help as many people as we can :)
