Pin discussions as a simple todo list

Pirate Praveen PublicSeen by 86

We should be able easily identify discussions which are not concluded or needs more attention by adding a pin or todo option. These discussions should appear below the voting discussions and should be able to access separately. This discussions that needs attention does not go unnoticed in the torrent of discussions which are already concluded.

I love this idea. I know a lot of people want to be able to "star" or "pin" or "favorite" discussions.

Steven Palmer

I like this idea, priority and organisation is important. I'm fine with pinning discussions, but also perhaps, a simple priority indicator, i.e. a traffic light alongside and inside discussions. This priority can be set by collective aggregation or group admin, or both, and indicated as such.

I'm not sure an on-going discussion should be classed as a to-do. Decisions requiring action should be allowed to be to-dos', because there's a consensus they are to-do. So perhaps a check box to mark agreed upon decisions as requiring action. Then a dedicated space for these to-do's where priority can be refreshed through consensus.

Currently there's a distinction between discussion and decision, but not action - decisions requiring action.

I definitely agree with @alanna that there is a need to distinguish stalled discussions from resolved ones. Could this be done via an ability to 'close' a finished discussion, moving it from the main discussions list into a separate archive? I like the traffic light suggestion by @stevenpalmer, as a way of visually simple way of distinguishing between:

  • green: active discussions
  • amber: stalled discussions
  • red: closed discussions

I love this idea @praveenarimbrathod
I think your description of the problem is clear and you have a clear idea of how it might behave.

If you (or someone else) has time, the next step would be to create a mockup of what it would look like for a user interacting at each step. This is like a movie story board.

some useful things to consider:

  • where are the places where you can pin/ unpin a discussion
  • where are the places you would access all pinned discussions
  • are pinned discussions for just within a group view, or are they also seen and sortable in the loomio dashboard and inbox? what does that look like?

if anyone would like to have a go at creating mockups, but hasn't done that sort of thing before, I would love to support them to learn that skill

Uhmm pinning is just starring to me.. Which is part of L1.0 designs - So I don't think we need to work out "where" @mixirving

If the pins could also have a time frame and get linked to specific people or sub-group with a group it would also become an incredible project management tool.

The group could outline a proposal they all agree upon set up deadlines with specific actions that need to be taken to achieve it. Then delegate who will take these actions and set follows to keep everyone up to date.

Maybe the current "Like" functionality on comments could simply be extended to discussions, as a first step to gauge interest in topics?

We've got this in our pipeline for the next sprint, so likely this will be a thing at some point in the near future. 🐲
