Organizing the Social.Coop Organizing Circle
On June 23rd, we approved the creation of an Organizing Circle (https://www.loomio.com/p/OI8kEjVz/social-coop-organizing-circle-proposal). This thread is for coordinating the next steps: The next steps are:
-
each working group chooses one person to be on the Organizing Circle
Community Working Group Ops Team
Tech Working Group
Finance Working Group
[legal?]
other members interested in helping organize the OC are welcome
those people will organize the sortition process for choosing the At Large members
Group to organize the OC

Hi folks, so a lot of people are interested in helping to organize the Organizing Circle. That's a great sign. Someone raised concerns about the difficulty of synchronous meetings, so I think we should start a new Loomio subgroup and use that. https://www.loomio.com/socialcoop-organize-the-organizing-circle/ As I understand it, our tasks are to a) recruit OC members from each of the existing working groups, b) organize and run a sortition process to recruit at large members. Once the OC is established, it is up to them to meet, etc. Sound good?
What is the team, working group or event you are inviting people to?
This group will organize the initial sortition process to set up the new Organizing Circle.
Why is this important?
The Organizing Circle will support and facilitate communication and collaboration in Social.Coop governance and operations.
What are you asking people to do?
Plan and coordinate the initial sortition process. This should take a couple of meetings and some correspondence.

Eager to see this get going.
Want to do what I can to help get this ball rolling.
Eager and excited to help out.
I'm willing to join but have been hesitant that being in Asia means late night/early morning calls for me (to accommodate Europe/US) - trying to eliminate those from my life. If that isn't an issue, then I can change to accept
@Nithin Coca ncoca Would a mostly asynchronous process work for you, then? Right now, we are talking about organizing the OC, which I think can largely be done asynch.
I'm currently in the TWG and CWG and interested in helping out set up the organizing circle as time permits :)
I don't have capacity but I'm very supportive of the process!
Happy to help how i can, though due to chemotherapy, i have a reduced number of spoons.
I am optimistic that I can make time for this. Regardless, I'm very excited to see this develop!
I'd love to support this effort at some point, but my table is too full at the moment.
Unfortunately, I'm currently devoting my time to setting up a new online community (intended to be hospitable to less technically-inclined people).
I'm overwhelmed at the moment and don't have space for participating in this but I'm glad it's happening and support the work!
I'm in the same situation as Nathan - I support the process but have insufficient bandwidth to participate.
I don't think this is my strong suit.
i'm a relatively new member, long time friend of social coop, and i've been looking for lightweight ways to help. maybe this is one? but I'd need to know when this would be to confirm..
don't have the capacity at the moment - but thanks to everyone involved :)
Don't have the bandwidth atm, but it's an interesting process.
I'm willing to participate, as long as we can make the timing of the meetings work. I will be in CET and PST time zones in the next few months.
@Akshay @Ed Summers @Calix ^ :D
Can't commit, but very supportive. Yay organizing!
I'm willing to help, but there's no suggestion as to when the meetings are. (I'm away for the first three weeks of August.)
I'm happy to help, if the meetings are within my possibilities. :)
I have some sociocratic practice also...
It looks as I missed the time-frame to vote, but count me as "accept" please.
Thanks. :)
