Vision Statement Closed Thu 31 Dec 2015 11:07PM

New Proposed Vision Statement drafted by Aaron with input from Chong Kee & Tara:

In 2014, over 250 people came together for the Living the New Economy Convergence in Oakland to create a vision for an economy in service of people and the planet. In 2016, a broad coalition of community leaders and social entrepreneurs will host a follow-on convergence focused on radically inclusive, racial justice solutions in Oakland. This theme is inspired by the #BlackLivesMatter movement's call to overcome systemic racism that to this day deprives Black Americans and other oppressed peoples of their inherent dignity and fair share of Oakland's economic prosperity. Through interactive, participatory activities, we will shine the light on what's working, what's not, and what more we can do to build the inclusive, vibrant Oakland of our dreams.

Hello LNE team! My name is Tibet Sprague. I am a software developer living in SF who just quit my job in the solar industry. I am really passionate about helping create, model and live the new economy (particularly inspired by Charles Eisenstein’s Sacred Economics a few years back). In the last year I have gotten involved in the basic income movement in the bay, as one important first area to work on. One project I've been working on there is called groupincome.org and will be a way for communities to pool their money and provide a basic income amongst themselves. Last year at the LNE convergence I participated in the hackathon and helped Sarah Lightfoot win a prize. I’m also good friends with Kendra Shanley formerly of Bay Bucks.

Right now I am spending the summer traveling and meeting with people in Europe about a basic income and other interesting new economy projects happening now or just getting started. While I figure out where to focus my efforts I am definitely excited about what you guys are doing and want to be involved in any way I can. I know it's a bit late to jump in, and I will be traveling for the next 5 weeks, but I will definitely contribute to the cause and spread the word. And let me know how else I might be able to help!
