Giveths Curation DAO (Odyssey Plan)

JF Josh Fairhead Public Seen by 207

Vision: Giveth.io - Rewriting the story of human collaboration. Funding common causes and utilities through bonding curves, curating them via crowdsourcing (TCR's) and filling in the blanks with machine learning and simulation.

Strange attractors: Odyssey Hackathon - Scaling Ecosystems, Nature2.ooo and Inclusive Banking. We will participate and integrate.

Before that however, there are the following events:
* ETHDenver - Friday, February 15, 2019 - Monday, February 18, 2019
* ETHAustin - Friday, February 22, 2019 - Monday, February 25, 2019
* Blockchain Week Paris - Monday, March 4, 2019 - Monday, March 11, 2019
* Ethereum Magicians Paris - Monday, March 4, 2019 - Tuesday, March 5, 2019
* Council of Paris 2019 - Monday, March 4, 2019 - Monday, March 4, 2019
* EthCC Paris - Tuesday, March 5, 2019 - Friday, March 8, 2019
* Odyssey - Friday, April 12, 2019 - Sunday, April 15, 2019

Why? We're building the commons. They're clearing obsticles and finding ways to enable us. This loop is made to be closed but the broader a network we have the better chance we have in achieving the common integration of everything!

~Roadmapish steps~
• Group alignment
• Organise a dial in reinforcements team

Communication:
* Riot community, social coding as a larger group.

Other things?? Yes, but uncertain and evolving!
* Post in the Odyssey community

Cool! 100% aligned!

As far as narrative goes - the most important part for me is that the Meta makes sense and is well thought out and presented. It is great to show an example campaign to walk people through, but the focus of narrative should be more on the system itself.

Cool! 100% aligned!

I like the use case of Mexican Rainforests as a PoC and a concrete example to walk people through the system (especially for team 3 due to the track relevance), but I agree with Kay that since Odyssey is primarily a hackathon centered around #commonization, the Commons Stack should share some of the narrative for relevant tracks.

[FUN] Choose a logo for ODYSSEY Closed Fri 22 Mar 2019 3:01PM

It was suggested to have something special to recognize our team by.

Because we don't want to allocate too many ressources here and make it a distraction, we quickly settled on a carrot that symbolizes incentivization.

Going from that we derived two things:
- Carroty stuff to wear (orange security vest ;-) and green wool hat)
- A pre-selection of logos for you to vote on.

The walking carrot kinda hints at intrinsic motivation with its animist theme (self motivated carrot). Also nicely paradoxical by that standard too :p

like the orange (=the netherlands' color, and most participants are actually dutch people, we are the exception.) But I miss a giveth link, which is the link :) My current favorite is just the giveth logo with the hands around that alan created, it expresses the commons, a more sustainable way of giving. Can come in orange too. Image here --> https://1drv.ms/u/s!AgK1G7SPw9vehtQicFGsZ_dTr13uaw

I like the string around the ethereum looking carrot... it reminds me of a top and balancing incentives is the name of the game!
I would love the rocket if it would face the other way around.

Splitting our Winnings! Closed Wed 27 Mar 2019 2:01PM

I propose we "socialize" the winnings and pay for some of the expenses from whatever money we win.

I think this will help us work together as a team and make sure we are incentivized to help each other at the hackathon :-D, In short, we are one big team, so let's make that real!

What expenses? Well I suggest:

1/2 the cost of plane/train/bridge tickets + €100 + the cost of the boat (minus any teams that opt out), this includes the costs for the 3 Jedis, Jeff, Kris and Josh.

Entire teams would opt-in or opt out. Not individuals.

I say 1/2 the cost of the round trip plane/train/bridge ticket, and not the full cost because we want to still incentivize people to find cheap tickets.

I say €100 because there are lots of random travel costs that will be incurred, including the other 1/2 of that ticket. And if you live close and don't have an expensive travel cost, good for you you should get a bonus!

And I can't wait to party on the boat ;-) but also don't really want to have to go collect the money from each one of you... that's real annoying. ;-)

Example:

If teams 1-4 opt in, but team 5 doesn't, the results are:

Team 1 wins €6k
Team 2 wins €2k
Team 3 wins €6k
Team 4 wins €4k

and the total cost of expenses is €4500

4500/18000 = 25%

Team 1 would pay €1500 to the group keeping €4500
Team 2 would pay €500 to the group keeping €1500
Team 3 would pay €1500 to the group keeping €4500
Team 4 would pay €1000 to the group keeping €3000
Team 5 and the judge would pay for their part of the boat.

Another less exciting example:

Team 1 wins €0.5k
Team 2 wins €0.5k
Team 3 wins €6k
Team 4 wins €1k

and the total cost of expenses is €6000

6000/8000 = 75%

Team 1 would pay €375 to the group keeping €125
Team 2 would pay €375 to the group keeping €125
Team 3 would pay €4500 to the group keeping €1500
Team 4 would pay €750 to the group keeping €250
Team 5 and the judge would pay for their part of the boat.

If god forbid our winnings don't cover the cost, we take off the €100 and do the math again. If it still doesn't cover the costs, we take off the plane tickets. If we don't even cover the boat... then i don't know what to say... i might cry.

Important to note: We have been told by Abe and the other organizers that every track does their own split for winnings but in every track, last place gets something.

What does each vote choice mean

Agree: I think its good and want my team to join under this circumstance, i might have an idea on how it can be better, and will suggest it in my comment (or not).

Disagree: I think the split needs to change and will comment how, I hope my team doesn't agree to this).

Abstain: Sounds like an ok split, but my preference is that my team does NOT opt in.

Block: This is a horrible idea, i think very strongly that it should be every team for itself.
