Hi all! This is Alli, organizer of the NASCO workshop. I've made this loomio group so we can try it out. The group is public, so all threads are visible on the web - I did this so we can make a thread of useful resources that people can view without having to join the group, but let me know if anyone thinks this should be private instead.

To answer the prompt above: My main goal with this group is to create a place where people can share information about managing co-op technology infrastructure. If people use this space to organize things such as hackathons, app ideas, new tech worker co-ops, that is totally awesome too. I see my role as a facilitator of this space, I'm not starting any huge projects right now (I'm a grad student so my research is my main focus). This is me: http://nilles2.web.engr.illinois.edu/

Excited to hear from y'all!

Hey all! Thanks so much to Alli for taking initiative & creating this space.

I'm Evan, from Santa Barbara Student Housing Co-ops. I'm a software engineer and potentially interested in starting a tech worker co-op with some like minded folks. Loomio is one of my inspirations. And discussing how everyone handles tech infrastructure in their co-ops of course :)

Hey there!

My name is Lars, and I am with the Oberlin Student Cooperative Association in northern Ohio. I am currently a second-year undergraduate studying Math and Computer Science.
I do not know how much I will be able to contribute to this space, but I am excited to contribute what I can and to take ideas raised here and try to implement them in my own co-op.
I am particularly interested in how others have utilized technology (like Loomio!) to enhance discussions/meetings in their co-ops.

Hello!

I'm Kyle, a general member of the ICC - Ann Arbor co-op houses. Similar to Lars, I don't know how much I'll be able to contribute to the technical discussions that revolve around programming, but why I'm interested in this group and why I was interested in our workshop is the same: I'm enthusiastic about the merit of sharing ideas and thinking "big". I took some key points away from our talk and am already thinking about how they can be applied, including the use of open source software. I looked into integrating MatterMost for our house  my friend explained how difficult that would be... But regardless, I'd love to exchange ideas, stories, proposals, etc. within this group. Thanks for the invite!

Hello!

I'm Jimmy, late to the party and a member and Vice President of Facilities of the MSU SHC in East Lansing, Michigan.

As an average computer user outside the field of computer science, I'm hoping to learn about and adopt platforms for use in my co-op that I may be unaware of as it stands. I try out as many different apps and platforms as I can that might help us to increase transparency (primarily) as well as communication between our members, staff, and officers.

Recently, we've been uploading our coop's policies to a wiki, taking after what Berkeley Student Cooperative has done with their website. In this fashion, I'm most interested in learning how other co-ops operate, what shared problems we have, and being able to brainstorm in a group that isn't afraid of technology, haha.

Boosting this thread to remind people new to the space to introduce themselves and their goals, especially in the sphere of cooperatives and technology!

Who is Defiance Black?
You met me in Ann Arbor (NASCO 2018) as Kemar.

I don't take any CompSci, but I've been teaching myself around Linux, SysAdmin and Python for about a year. I host some stuff via https://portroyal.ltd and try to keep track of my learnings at https://docs.portroyal.ltd.

When it comes to SCT, I'm interested in writing code and making it nice. I believe that something fantastical can be made by lassoing various FOSS projects together and hacking on them so that they do specifically what the cooperative business model needs them to do. Then, tech talks at NASCO can revolve around how to make our own software better, as opposed to how to use everyone else's software.

The dream!
