Regular Presence at Shared Ground?

This is for the Groundskeeping Committee, Steering Committee, and other motivated volunteers. What kind of commitments can we each make in the new year to have a regular physical presence at Shared Ground?

I am curious about the beneficial impacts of having someone "hold it down" each day at Shared Ground, or as many days as we can confidently commit to.

As I reconsider my commitments to Shared Ground in 2023, I feel able to commit to at least one, possibly two, days per week that I am there each week (minus planned vacations). For instance, I could see myself "holding it down" Tuesdays and Thursdays, or Tuesdays and Sundays.

How about you?

If we were to do a quick poll to assess our capacity to commit to weekly dates at Shared Ground, this may allow us to consider publicizing regular offerings, such as: regular drop-in hours for volunteers, regular meet-ups for committees, and/or regular drop-in coworking hours.

I love this idea! And I would also be able to add at least one more day starting in February. So perhaps Caroline and I team up for like Wednesday or Monday? I think Adam also mentioned he is usually at Shared Ground on Mondays.

I can begin holding down Thursdays as soon as next week, and look forward to being in the same space!

I know this has closed already but I need to shift my commitment to Saturdays 10am-4pm! Makes a lot more sense for me and my family. BIPOC events that I steward/host will usually happen on Saturdays.

The following chart describes the day / what happens / who serves as primary host.

*I'm personally open to the non-Thursday coworking day being Tuesday or Wednesday. Co-hosts, please voice your opinions if you prefer other days—otherwise we will go with Mondays for now.

I'm really looking forward to this getting going!

Here's what's been batted around lately, from my perspective: We haven't reached consensus on a plan for when the members' lounge is open. Is it only open during the co-working hours? Different hours? When open, does the members' lounge need a designated "host" separate from the co-working host? Is it reasonable/safe to have someone responsible for both spaces since they are pretty physically distinct with different uses going on. Does the members' lounge need a host throughout open hours? (Seems like a good idea to me for safety sake.)

Separately, I am thinking it may be advantageous to spread out the coverage listed above in order to have more "open" days per week. Like, just a couple people per day and then we might be able to have Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday have open hours for co-working and members' lounge. Then as more members achieve "steward" levels of trust, they take on hosting role on these days as well.

Finally, to move this forward we need more details on what responsibilities and tasks are required when you are "on" as host for the day. If there are 3 or 4 people listed for the day doesn't feel functional to me for the classic reason when know about everyone responsibly meaning no one is responsible.

Open Hours for co-working and lounge

My counter proposal: Monday through Thursday, 10-5pm. Spread out the coverage something like:

Monday - Adam (Caroline)?

Tuesday - Bobbie (Kēnya)?

Wednesday - Caroline (Adam)?

Thursday - Drew (everyone)

If we could have two people each day one could "cover" the co-working and one could cover the lounge. I don't think it would be necessary to be in those two rooms the whole day but just be mindful of whats going on in those rooms. I'm just feeling like it would really open up the possibilities to be open more days than not.

we can make Saturdays 10-5 for the sake on some consistency! I can't do Tuesdays unfortunately, its just too much during the week with the baby and school pick ups for my teen.

I think we should start small and focus our energy on making the days we are open really good, then expand day by day through bringing more people into the circle of trust and responsibility.

Kristina said she can do a Tuesday or Wednesday possibly, and is fully committed to Thursday.

I agree with Drew's point. I don't want to spread us too thin, and want the days that we chose to be really HELD.

I don't like Mondays after all and would rather select Tuesdays, especially if it's a day that Bobbie and Kristina can also do.
