Create a "Grievances" circle

RJ Ricky Jefferyes Public Seen by 17

We should create a sub-group from the IC that deals with
- sexual harassment
- bullying
- EEO complaints
- Any other complaints and grievances in general
- conflict prediction and resolution

You get the idea.

This group should be visible to the public but all discussions within should be hidden to maintain confidentiality.

It will help members to feel at ease. Most organisations have something similar to this.

Really???

Here we are talking about dissolving a circle and you want another.

Is it vital? Do we really need more groups when we struggle to maintain the ones we have?

And are we going to have a long discussion about the Group's name, and what titles its members should have. Oh dear.

And who would be the people in this department? I bet they would be the people from the IC. And how many of these issues do you think we are going to have to deal with that involves anyone outside of the IC? I don't think any new volunteers are going to need this service while we are so small. And if they do, we are so small that the IC is the only body that has the staff to help.

That's right, the issues that the circle will have to deal with will probably be few and far between. So it wont be too draining to spread ourselves a little further. I don't mind volunteering for it. I wont mind if others want to elect me to be the IC Delegate for it. I'll do it and find it easy.

I also don't mind if no one else in the IC wants to join me. I know many security officers with lots of experience in conflict resolution. I could probably do the job all by myself but I will invite others to help and be witness.

We should probably just limit the group to two or three people though. If the work load gets too much for the group then we can create sub-groups from the Grievance group for each of the different complaint types. Just so that there aren't too many people looking in on any one case, but still a couple of witnesses for each case. I doubt the work load will be big though. It will be easy.

I am as ambivalent about this idea as I am the IG. They both have their reasoning. Perhaps you can resolve the conflict with the IG. I shrug. No skin off my back if you want another department. It might be good if the problems can live in there and we can get on with business.

Yeah, that's the point of it. Not everyone in the IC needs to be dealing with this sort of thing. Everyone in the IC should be helping to decide on what days they are available to meet though. ...And set their own goals, etc. That discussion is for another thread though.

@lbjoum What are your reasons for being ambivalent? What do you have against this idea?

Ambivalent is not having something against.

Both the IG and Grievances are not urgent departments. The only thing that came out of the IG was the recognition that it had the same name as the core group and that the core needed to change its name. And according to the basics of Sociacracy and Holocracy, the IC, and every circle, should have a separate meeting of its members to deal with any conflict/tension, and to deal with governance, or definitions of roles, etc. I would have to refresh my knowledge on this, but I think this is not so much a separate group as it is a process within the IC and every group. But if that process is made clearer to people if they create a separate group, so be it, I am ambivalent.
