Australasians 2016-17

N NickDW [CBR] Public Seen by 466

Joint AU/NZ Nationals were put on hold in 2015 in preparation for Worlds 2016. Now that Worlds is done, we need to consider things like:
- when we intend to hold the next Australasians (does it depend on Worlds VIII?)
- where we intend to hold it (are any clubs currently considering it?)
- what format will it be (i.e. do we stick with 3v3 if it seems NAH is moving to 5v5? Do we care now and are we happy to adapt?)

And if there is anything else you think we need to talk about in this context, chuck it in. Or if you think the issue is broader than just Australasians, make a new thread.

@andrewhayward seems the votes are coming your way but still missing Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Hawera, Nelson, Christchurch, and Dunedin.

OK, so, by the rules agreed in this post https://www.loomio.org/d/anymd9zC/using-loomio-for-ahbpa-decisions neither proposal got enough votes to be a valid decision. So the Melbourne proposal lapses too - though also according to those rules it should have been open for two weeks rather than seven days was it?

Now Joelle reported in this thread https://www.loomio.org/d/EuBD8L4y/timaru-annual-tournament-2017 that Sydney's majority vote was for Melbourne.

So we have the Timaru proposal with 5 votes - 3 in favour, one abstain, one against, and the Melbourne proposal with 7 votes and all in favour (including one of the Timaru reps) and a expression of support from one Sydney rep.

I'm a bureaucrat in my day job so I won't bring it here. If I'm reading the situation right there is support for Melbourne's bid to host Australasian's in April 2017. Before we go announcing any decision are there any objections?

It would be kinda nice if we kept to our own rules. Can we extend the Melbourne proposal to at least 2 weeks from it's inception? Following that, it would be nice to get some votes from some of the bigger clubs (Sydney Brisbane etc..). Hopefully by then at least 50% of reps would have voted.

I like sticking to the rules, so ill open the proposal for 2 weeks. but at this stage we'll proceed with tacit aproval. if anyone is thinking of objecting then please let me know asap.

General consensus from Brisbane is than we all would prefer Melbourne. Tim can be the new contact on the but I haven't spoken to anyone yet who is keen on Timaru. Soz Timaru, Love you! ❤️😍

OK. So situation as I see it reads like this:

Melb (@andrewhayward) proposal using Loomio platform closed a week ago with Canberra (me), Hobart (@roberth1), Newcastle 1 of 2 (@adammnewcastle), Timaru 1 of 2 (@karljameswhittlest), and Auckland (@alanengland & @patakl) all voting in favour (along with Melbourne of course). But that is insufficient participation to make a decision and the voting period was not open for the right amount of time (i.e. two weeks).

However, the two weeks are now up and we have Brisbane (through Ollie though in future through @timothygeoghegan ) expressing support for Melbourne (but are unable to vote). We also previously had @joellemiller express Sydney's support for Melbourne.

@johnharrington1 (Newcastle) has stated he has no objections to my suggestion that we announce Melb has the Jedi's support to host Australasians - which I take to me he supports Melb hosting.

That leaves us at 10 reps participating - all in favour of Melbourne's bid.

Now there is no rule about how long a proposal can stay open for - the two weeks is a minimum. So if Melb still want to host we can consider the proposal open and reps can just state their position (it would be easier if the Loomio proposal app could let us keep voting but in the absence of that we can simply express our views). On that note, @michaelbroadhead if you wanted to keep Timaru's proposal open you can too.

Assuming the Melb proposal is open, and I have assessed everyone's votes correctly, then with only two more votes on Melbourne's bid (expressed here) we can consider a decision made. Unless one of those votes is a veto.

The reps yet to vote on Melbourne's proposal are:
Brisbane - @jamiebarber (and technically Googs)
Christchurch - @carissa and @andybalcar
Dunedin - @jamesmckellar and @reubenvercoe
Hamilton - @fleurforeman
Hawera - @doughawera
Nelson - @mathewcumming
Perth - @punk and @leftybullshitperth
Sydney - @kentsyd
Timaru - @michaelbroadhead

There's also two Taupo reps named (Nigel Tipene and Shane Blackmore) but they don't seem to have Loomio accounts so I can't tag them - and if they don't have Loomio accounts it'd be hard for them to vote.

Ball is in reps court but as Andy says above, Melb are preparing to host so they'll start telling people they're hosting Australasians next year if we don't express a view to the contrary (though it looks like most of the people who speak up here are happy with Melbourne hosting).

After more discussion with Sydney, I will vote for melb and the conclusion is that our vote for Timaru was split,

So from Sydney, thats 2 votes yes for Melbourne, and 1 vote each way for Timaru.

Ok, if we include Taupo reps in the count we need one more vote to accept Melb (we should also talk to them about joining Loomio). If we don't include Taupo then we've gotten the 50% of reps required to make a decision. Though it would be good to get confirmation from Timaru as the rival bidder that they're ok with this.
