Australasians 2016-17

Joint AU/NZ Nationals were put on hold in 2015 in preparation for Worlds 2016. Now that Worlds is done, we need to consider things like:
- when we intend to hold the next Australasians (does it depend on Worlds VIII?)
- where we intend to hold it (are any clubs currently considering it?)
- what format will it be (i.e. do we stick with 3v3 if it seems NAH is moving to 5v5? Do we care now and are we happy to adapt?)

And if there is anything else you think we need to talk about in this context, chuck it in. Or if you think the issue is broader than just Australasians, make a new thread.

Have been thinking about this. Fitting in two Australasians before worlds 8, which will be late 2017, might be a challenge. But not impossible. I think Melbourne might be able to put it on. But we already have a lot on our plate. However, maybe having the tournament in place of our regular Spring tournament might be an option (September 3/4). Just floating that. I think it would be better off in (or near) Sydney as that is a bit more convenient for most players.

There's been some talk about this recently. We really need to put something down. I think it's really important to have an Australasians/Australians, and there's certainly still time to put one on this year. Is early december - post uni exams- a good time? I know BNE are a bit keen for this. We could certainly do something in Melbourne around that time too. Whatever it is, let's get it locked in asap.

I support there being an Australasians this year but I will be giving only passing thought to it until the Canberra tourney is over.
I think the club's current focus is in the same place.

Melbourne hosts 2017 Australasians Closed Mon 31 Oct 2016 10:01AM

Melbourne is bidding to host the 2017 Australasians. Proposal is 3 courts, 3 days with a 48 team cap. We have a location that can accomodate us, but are also looking at other venues that might serve better, so dates are not 100% finalised. Most likely to be early April during the easter break.
