Interactive control panel

Concept [so far]: A large desk sized control panel with retro buttons. The styling would imitate a 1970 - 80's power station control panel [see images below]. Interactivity is to be incorporated but specifics are undetermined.
Construction and materials
Thin folded aluminium panels on a lightweight frame.
Interactivity possibilities
- Stage lighting
- Fire effects [with safety features, ?key ignition]
- Beer dispenser

Can we park this idea for now and work on what the over all stage/DJ area is going to look like?
This close to Earthcore our time and funds would be better soent there?

Keep your eyes pealed for old buttons, switches, dials and gauges, we're going to need fucking heaps of them.

Ok I can do some mockups of this thing.. Also, can you guys get some plasma globes? We can totally work some awesome electrical effects with it.

Andrw Waugh Mon 7 Dec 2015 2:57AM
I have a spherical plasma ball and 2 plasma lamp things that are in the shape of a lava lamp.
I can't find the power supplies for them

Andrw Waugh Mon 7 Dec 2015 2:58AM
things to check:
They provide a lot of electrical interference - they can't be near sound equipment or you'll hear a noise in the PA system.
We'll have to check if they cause sound issues when sharing a generator with PA equipment.
(hopefully not)

We are starting to make a plan out for the interactive panel, aiming to get it done for Earth Festival. We are planning on having voice recordings in different languages playing out final words before the apocalypse / Radio chatter / SOS signals
As well as the console buttons activating different parts of the panel to light up or to kick on a small smoke machine.
Fyodor Krasniy Tue 8 Dec 2015 9:35AM
It will be mostly as an interactive piece near the chill space Im thinking. So adding in the "plasma reactor" into it would be good if we can find the power cables for them :D

Ariane Bingham Tue 8 Dec 2015 10:44AM
would this get set up in our camp area then @andrwwaugh ? how exciting!

Andrw Waugh Tue 8 Dec 2015 12:40PM
Sounds this idea is evolving.
I like this stuff.
I also like the original idea of something that controls the stage lights / fire effects for burning seed - though I'm not actually ready to build that part of it.
So maybe it should split in 2 projects?
You guys continue on the tangent you're on as it sounds like you have a good idea on how it could be achieved and in a shorter time frame.
And in future I can look into more lighting / fire control stuff and then we can collaborate on making that look good when that is ready?
So we'd either eventually end up with 2 consoles or maybe the functionality of the interactive control panel could be expanded upon over time.

Theoretically, we'll have a multitude of controllers of various sizes, some having a broad function some just easter eggs. Everything will get there in due time, but lets begin with some buttons and lights.
Im preparing a project brief for you and rory after we nut out exactly what needs to go where for buttons.
Can I please get an inventory list of switches and buttons we have available?
Or what kinds of buttons we can make.
Fyodor Krasniy Wed 9 Dec 2015 2:54AM
@enervatix @andrwwaugh
Use this comment space as an inventory listing for electricals we have for the panels; Buttons etc.

Rory McMahon Wed 9 Dec 2015 3:35AM
Next time I'm at the maker lab I'll take some photos of what I've got.
Also here's a cool device for turning random buttons into bluetooth HID keyboard output that can be used to interact with a computer, do do say trigger visuals on screens, affect the lighting, etc.

@fyodorkrasniy I'd love to get involved with this project.
