Private nominations/submissions to a comittee
Lets see if I do a good job explaining this one.
The idea is you have a group of people on a committee or panel, they are trusted to receive private submissions. Non-members can start discussions within the group, but they can only see the discussion they created.
The members of the group and the discussion author can have a conversation to resolve any questions. Group members can also invite other guests if required.
We worked with OpenSSL to develop this feature for their representative election process.
From the user manual page:
Nominations are a clear use case when candidate details or the list of nominees must remain private during selection. A person can nominate themselves or someone else for an election, appointment, committee, board, or representative role, while a selection panel reviews each nomination in its own discussion.Other suitable purposes where submissions should not be public include:
Complaints, safeguarding reports, safety concerns, and incident reports
Appeals and requests to reconsider a decision about an individual case
Requests for mediation, conflict resolution, or personal support
Applications containing personal, financial, or eligibility information, such as hardship grants or scholarships
Sealed bids or tender responses that must remain private during assessment
As always - very interested to know if you have a use case for this within your own organsations.

Hi @Edward Bainton,
No, this is quite different. This allows people to start discussions in groups they don't belong to and cannot see the contents of. They become a guest of the discussion they started, so they can have a private conversation with the group's members.
For what you're talking about - I would suggest the committee starts private polls in a private subgroup, and public (or member visible) polls in the main group.

Hi Robert. Is this feature optional?
Robert GuthrieThu 15 Oct 2026 10:13PM
@Midi Berry yes - it is optional and disabled by default.
The common behaviour - non members can't start discussions in a group they don't belong to, has not been lost. This is just intended to be enabled for special cases.
This is explained, along with a screenshot on the user manual page.

It sounds like this would be useful to us - although it may be what we need is already covered by sub-group settings; I'm not sure.
Ideally we would have some polls that are visible only to the committee, and other polls that are visible to the whole membership. (This is about visibility/access, not rights/invitations to vote.) Sounds like this would do that?
