feb/march edition
so, as we have discussed at the past few meetings, we definitely need to try to create an edition of slaney st focussed around the impending doom of the council cuts. my suggestion would be that we discuss this at the next editorial board meeting with the new board (still not sure who's on it). i've written a call out and if the EB agree we should publish it on the website immediately after the meeting.
here it is:
This is a call-out for funding and small donations to support an emergency Anti-Cuts Edition!
A new editorial board has been elected to Slaney Street and we’re keen to get straight on the job of producing our next issue. As many of you are aware hundreds of cuts are being put through Birmingham City Council this March and the proposals have just been released. However, hardly anyone in the city knows what impact they will have on their day-to-day lives. If we don’t spread the word then it’s likely that these cuts will be voted through without resistance by the Labour council with the support of the Tory and Lib Dem opposition.
We need to spread the word. Our mission is to let the people of Birmingham know exactly what’s happening, how it will affect them and their families and what they can do to stop it! We are seeking out the stories of individuals already affected by the cuts and likely to be most affected by the next round of careless dismissal of important services to the city.
We plan to dedicate the next two months to make an edition which we hope will inform more people in Birmingham, and to build the resistance to these harmful council cuts. But we need your help! Without funding this project will not be possible – it is only through your generous donations that we can make this a reality. If you can afford to we would welcome your help!

I'm in favour of this call out going out as soon as possible. However rather than in two months I think we need to aim to get the next edition out in February. Remember the General Election in May 7th we'll need to have an edition out in April for that too so we need to leave time for this. I understand that requires us to get to work quite quickly.

Totally agree. Let's focus on the cuts as a local issue, and austerity as a wider one.

okay shall i publish this? any edits? should i also mention the need for article contributions/deadlines?

@helena I think publish the emergency anti cuts edition but launch it together with links to our paypal or a go fund me at the very least. Remember you need to be raising the money for this edition yourself. Once it out message me and I will message it out aggressively to contacts. Also you should make a facebook event for it and invite all.
You decided at your EB board meeting that your deadline would be Provisional deadline for articles for next edition, Feb 15th.
I think it is mistake to do the edition to early. Slaney Street has debts to me and Dan that it needs to pay.
@helena @daniellindley @robert2 @bobwhitehead can you take this as notice that I would like some of my money back at the next opportunity. Slaney Street did pledge back in may 2014 to pay it back after the summer but it was instead prioritized each time either paying out money in wages to distributors or getting another edition done.
We have £771 in the account now I think some of this should go to paying back my debt of £225. It doesn't have to be all of it but some would be nice as I'm struggling for cash a lot present with court fines being deducted out my wages and less hours being given to me due to my union work.

@helena Yes publish it but with the deadline. I thought that was the decision made at the last meeting but sorry if it wasn't clear.
@Edward As far as I'm aware you're the only one who has the PayPal details. You need to pass this on to the editors before we can do anything. You should be paid back what you're owed.

I have sent the paypal details to @seanfarmelo Alistair @daniellindley and @helena
I wasn't the only person with the password, I can tell that because the paypal logs its logins.
Please don't lose the passwords!! the number of times I have been bugged for lost passwords in astronomical.

Attached is the latest flyer for the library event on Saturday. Could it be published? Hopefully we will know the city budget and how it affects the LoB and wider library service by the deadline on the 15th and can have an up to date article, which could be done by Jolyon or myself.
We could also do with a populist style attack on Kerslake, maybe Rick Hatcher would do it.
I have reminded Bham Left Unity about its agreement to place an advert. Hopefully something flashy will turn up.

Yes I totally agree. I've been meaning to write something myself, but I've been overwhelmed.
