Call Saturday at 4pm EST
Hey all, since it's Friday, it looks like Saturday at 4pm EST will be the best time for our initial call, according to the doodle, so I've created a google hangout link here: https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/calendar/Y2h1aGlzdG9yeUBnbWFpbC5jb20.an6636rvigtvu66l4bbkh75jn8?authuser=0
I will be coming straight from another event and will thus have minimal prep time, so if somebody else has the time to put together an agenda doc and post it to this thread in the meantime, that would be awesome!
Saw this posted on Masto and figured it could be of use to the more tech oriented for figuring how much effort setting up a node will take: https://blog.travisbriggs.com/setting-up-your-own-mastodon-with-digital-ocean-and-docker-29e633d354f2
Sounds like a great start. I've looked over the technical details, and all looks pretty straightforward, nothing I haven't done before.
In terms of target I'd suggest members only, and as a main goal setting up and running as a prototype coop (figuring out org. structure, guiding documents, collaborative & transparent admin models for infrastructure/funds/moderation/etc), that other groups could then easily replicate to create extra nodes (better to scale-out rather than needing to scale-up our node too much) and even for other federated networks/platforms in the future.
PS. the fediverse is growing rapidly right now, we need to act quickly! https://mnm.eliotberriot.com/dashboard/db/mastodon-network-overview
Also, for each topic that comes up during the call requiring a decision, I suggest we all present our points of view, but that even if there's a consensus, that we then post each one as a proposal on Loomio.
After the call we could all invite some of our contacts + maybe post to social networks about this initiative, so we can involve more (semi-vetted) interested parties in the discussion and decision-making.
I've created a google doc for a living agenda/minutes of the meeting, which can be found here. I've added Michele's agenda items to it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NpBqZlt0h1kfA-dB7dPgcSToCk8PbKkOigb3R5kSFGc/edit?usp=sharing
Fine by me. How about we address the following:
- who's our "target" (eg. will it be a coop-only instance or will it be free for all?)
- what's our goal
- how we want to measure that goal
- what are the tech hurdles (if any)
- estimated cost
Maybe it's the corporate UX designer in me, but these seem like good starting points :)
