Shows eligible for a review

To be eligible for review, a show must be:

  • Open to members of the public, including koha and workshop development showings, AND

  • A professional or co-operative show OR

  • A show that is part of a recognized arts festival, such as Fringe, the International Arts Festival, the NZ Improv Festival, of the NZ International Comedy Festival, OR

  • Hosted by a professional theatre venue (e.g. BATS, Circa, The Fortune Theatre, The Basement, St James, etc).

Shows performed by students in the final year of an industry training programme are eligible for review at the discretion of Theatreview’s Managing Editor.

Shows by dedicated amateur theatre groups, community groups, private showings, and students performing as part of a non-final year course are eligible for review at the discretion of the Managing Editor.

Question: What does this mean for groups like Long Cloud Youth Theatre? Is there a better way to determine eligibility? What should determine a show's eligibility for reviews when they inhabit the NZ artistic grey area?
