Hi all! Nice to be here. I learned about this group from an experimental piece written by Enzo and Don for the issue CITY of Journal of Peer Production: http://peerproduction.net/cfp-jopp-special-issue-11-city-abstracts-due-31-january-2017/, which I co-edit and which will be published soon :-)

I have contributed also this book chapter in the recently published book by Enzo and Jack: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-319-66592-4_13

Kia ora @patriciamorgan! Thanks for inviting me in @vincenzogiorgino. I am an arts curator and community activist based in Wellington New Zealand, drawn to commons thinking by Michel Bauwens in 2010 from an encounter at several arts festivals. Contemplation is a big part of artistic practice. I have been running a public art agency, www.lettingspace.org.nz and www.urbandreambrokerage.org.nz, both of which are around shared spatial environments and artistic practices that create them.

I have also had long involvement in social enterprise startups and was a founding director of Loomio's parent company. Professionally, I'm working with architecture and spatial activism and currently undertaking a PhD through University of Copenhagen and Victoria University of Wellington. Lovely to 'meet' you all here.

Hi Sophie @sophiejerram really nice to meet you here, I'm a New Zealander living in Sydney and am a member of Enspiral (not active at the moment) and a member of Mindfulness for Change a group you may know of as they are a part of Enspiral? I was a working artist for 20 years - many of which were spent in Wellington - so amazing all of our connections! I too am very interested in contemplative art: http://www.thecontemplativeacademy.com/arts.html linking my history in the arts and my academic work in contemplative inquiry. I agree with you about the arts and contemplation I think there is a direct correlation between the contemplative and creative state of consciousness! Your work sounds really interesting and all the very best with everything that you're doing, including your PhD. I may be in Wellington in the next month or two so it would be great to meet in the flesh? All the best, Patricia

Thanks Patricia. Ahhh Mindfulness for change. Perhaps I've been too mindless in the past to connect in there. I'm noticing how academic research pushes me to be both less action-oriented (and more thoughtful) but also less intuitive (and somehow less contemplative)... Lovely to see your website. Please contact me when you are in Wellington. I will be in Europe again in April but still based mostly in Wellington.

Hi Sophie @sophiejerram here's a link to the MfC website: https://www.mindfulnessforchange.co.nz/ I went to one of their hui's in 2016 but haven't been able to engage much since then, but I am thinking of coming home so hope to be able to be more involved then. I was interested to read your reflections on academic research - I feel that it significantly changed my consciousness - tightened and loosened in different ways! When are you back from Europe? Looking forward to meeting one of these days soon. All the best, Patricia

Thanks Patricia, lots of familiar faces in that line up, thanks for the prompt. Back in mid-May if you visiting then.

Hi everyone! I met Zack virtually after reading his abstract on commoning and changing ontologies for the AAG conference, and met Thomas Bruhn a few times in Berlin.
I have been working (as PhD researcher and practitioner) on the role of digital commons in reclaiming urban space as a commons. In my intellectual path I slowly moved towards using commoning, as it avoids a naturalist understanding (Ostrom) of what commons are ("the commons was never a resource", V. Shiva) and anchoring my work in the diverse/community economies research agenda. In my work/practice I have observed that commoning practices are limited by two obvious factors:

  • the fact that (wanna-be) commoners are still operating with the dominant ontology of separation: subject-object, human-nature, etc.
  • the world of institutions, rules, norms, business models and practices, is also shaped by this ontology of separation, where resources (tangible and intangible) can be extracted from their regenerative ecosystem and commodified.

So the questions that I would like to explore in the coming years through action-research, art, and self practice are the following:

  • What tools, resources, practices are available for supporting individuals to embrace commoning?
  • What communities, networks are intentionally working towards a transformation that reaches that ontological depth (e.g. Pachamama Alliance)?
  • What (convivial) technologies (soft and hard) can support individuals and communities in this path of transformation? (e.g. open source online collaborative decision-making like Loomio?)

In parallel I am training in and practicing Movement Medicine which is a mix of meditation in movement and shamanic practices with a touch of Gestalt therapy. This path has been very transformative in my experience of the everyday. It speaks to me because it applies to a very personal and intimate level an understanding that healing lies in acceptance, reconnection, and emphasizes reciprocity as a compass for interpersonal relationships. It is operating in an ontology inspired from indigenous cultures from the Amazon and elsewhere, that has been adapted for westerners. I find it being a powerful tool to rewire my system.

Looking forward to exchange with the community!

Hi Adrien,

thank you for your contribution. I am sure it will stimulate other friends to intervene... as well as myself quite soon!
Welcome!
