Regular Meetings Times - Friday 17th November, Dec 1st and Dec 15th

AC Anna Casey-Cox Public Seen by 387

Kia ora everyone, Sylvia has asked me to let everyone know that she will be meeting from 10am-3pm at Go Eco this Friday (17th of November), and then again in two weeks (the 1st of Dec) and last for the year on Friday the 15th of Dec. This is instead of the Tuesday meetings. Go Eco closes from the 23rd of Dec to the 8th of Jan. Sylvia has also asked that everyone check out http://foodconnectfoundation.org.au/

And lastly, below this note, I've posted an email that Sylvia recently sent to Sam. Sylvia wanted to be sure that everyone saw this. Thanks and keep up the great work everyone!

Ngaa mihi, Anna

Hi Samantha,
I don't understand why you say there is no farm supplying even a portion of the foods needed for the CSA boxes when this is not correct.

Even at this very early stage, myself and Shannon are already supplying produce we have grown and harvested for the 'practice' boxes those in the core team t have requested, which includes yourself.

I see no point in promoting the CSA to future customers or contacting possible suppliers until we, as a core team, have at the very least, drafted up an agreed upon initial Mission Statement and have acheived more clarity and cohesion as a group about the role and purpose of a Waikato Food Connect CSA. And as well have a pamphlet, with contact details, we can hand out explaining what the Waikato Food Connect CSA it is, its values, purpose and how it will be practically and legally structured.

There are many more 'first steps' to be agreed upon and put into a Process Manual, or as Shannon has suggested, onto a website we can all view as a 'working document' that can be updated or altered as decided at our core team meetings.

As I understand it, as part of the Bio regional Regenerative Movement, the Waikato Food Connect CSA is a community initiated social enterprise that acts as a Local Food Connection & Distribution Hub, providing a service to a collaborative/co operative group of local farmers, growers and producers as well as a service to consumers keen on supporting regenerative agricultural, future food security and obtaining fresh healthy local produce.

I envisage the Waikato Food Connect CSA will also play a part in facilitating bio regional biodiversity through encouraging more local food production, and via Permaculture education and other social action means such as Permaculture Celebrations, Harvest Festivals, Public Awareness & Educational Events etc.

At an earlier meeting it was agreed that individually, each of us in the core group (those from Frank and Josie's meeting in August plus others that have since also made the commitment to help establish a Waikato CSA ) read through the CSA Action Manual, then check through section 3.2 "Ten Steps to forming a CSA" and jot down our respective viewpoints.

So that our meetings continue on from where we left off and acheive progress I propose that we follow through with this earlier decision, read through these Ten steps and jot down our thoughts to bring to our next meeting. And then as a group we share and discuss our viewpoints and consolidate them into a Ten Step Working Document.

And I propose that at this stage we keep this Ten Step Working Document as our main focus at meetings until we consider we have developed it to a level of clarity and functionality we are satisfied with and are able to utilise it as our own guideline and as a foundational document to structure this social enterprise on.

I look forward to your feedback, Sylvia

Yes Alvaro , i will sort out a box esp for yr situation :) . Rob and are meeting during the week and will put an Agenda on Loomio and update everyone. As for Saturday just come along to what you can manage comfortably. The goal is to get things a little more consolidated before we break for xmas and New Year until we all meet again for the February CSA meeting.

I think it will also help progress if each of us chooses an aspect or topic to do some 'homework' or research on as (and if ) time allows during January, that we can bring to the February meeting.

I havent had a chance to meet with anyone other than those who have been able to get to the tuesday (now friday) meeting up at GoEco. However i hope to get a few things sorted with Robs help to put onto loomio and also hope to catchup with Samantha during the week.

As for now im in Te Puna, its been a long day and just on midnight. Tomorrw i will be harvesting avos & Oranges with Oscar and Frankies help so had better get some sleep for that, gdnite all :) Sylvia

Kia ora everyone - Sylvia mentioned that you had tried to develop a vision and mission statement (or similar) for the CSA but that it had not quite happened yet. I'm happy to come in on Saturday afternoon during the 4-6 meeting to facilitate this for you. I will follow the process that Community Waikato uses. They helped Poverty Action Waikato develop ours and it was a good process. Just an offer if you would like. Anna

It'd be great, I believe this would be an important step. I read somewhere: "If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll probably end up somewhere else"

Hi All,

Here is a quick update on the plans for tomorrow, Saturday Dec. 2nd. The room at GoEco is booked for us from 10am onwards, between 10am and 4pm we will have an informal discussion and brainstorming session with a BYO lunch planned between 12:30 and 1:30. Please come along to join the discussion and share your ideas if you are able.

The Core Team Meeting will take place between 4 and 6 with a potluck and movie afterward. The group who has been able to meet on Fridays has put together a PowerPoint presentation with a proposed timeline for the implementation of the CSA. I will present this during the meeting. I have offered to facilitate the first half of the meeting as it will revolve largely around this proposal. Anna has offered to facilitate the final development of our mission statement which will occur during the second half of our meeting. Our aim is to solidify the basic structure of the CSA and our mission statement before going into the holiday period. As we will not formally meet again until February it would be great if we could get enough of a skeleton agreed upon that groups or individuals can work somewhat independently on research and planning during this time.

10-12:30 – Informal Discussion
12:30-1:30 – Bring Your Own Lunch
1:30-4 – Informal Discussion
4-6 – Core Team Meeting
6-7 – Potluck (Local foods are encouraged)
7-9 – Movie(s) - Olivier de Schutter: Food sovereignty A critical dialogue
- ‘Polyfaces’

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Rob

Crop swap prior to CSA public meeting Closed Sat 13 Jan 2018 8:05AM

Kia ora everyone. I am wondering if the CSA would be able to organise and host a crop swap just prior to or part of the CSA monthly public meeting. The surpluses could be donated to or sold to the CSA boxes. Sylvia and Sam think this a good idea. What does everyone else think.
