Hi there! My name is Jose, I am a big fan of P2P foundation since some years. I have been also collaborating with OSCEdays and Open Source Ecology, for almost a year. I am interested in making things happen in the economic sphere and applying the economic strategies of P2P, and other similar initiatives. Currently we are preparing to launch a campaign for an open source microwave to start with a simple products, but we are interested in open source consumer goods.

Beside this we are preparing a campaign perk, which is an e-Book about p2p, to get people involved. The idea behind this project is not just to build open source things. We see it as an experiment aiming to find out if:

  1. We can use crowdfunding not just to pay the costs, but to reach a level of reciprocity in paying development hours.
  2. Establish an open coop that can sustain and grow their economic operations.
  3. And eventually circulate open source goods and get involved in the value chain of the manufacturing and distribution process.

I share some images from the e-book, and would love to hear what you think. Please do not share yet the illustrations and promote the campaign, since we are not launching yet. I made the illustrations and the book myself.

What are your thoughts? Are you interested in engaging also with economic operations beyond research? Is there another space in the P2P Foundation ecosystem to allocate such idea? We are also interested in the theory behind this discussion.

Regards,

Jose

Hi Michel, we are still reviewing the book. I can send you a copy, but I am trying to not circulate it yet for the public. Is this thread is private enough? Otherwise I can send it via email.

But I definitely want to be articulated with P2P I am big fan. I am also a reader of political economy, maybe a lot of the empathy comes from there :)

Wow Jose Carlos, those illustrations are beautiful! We do collaborate in projects which are not necessarily research based so sure, keep us in the loop. Also, when the book is ready to promote, email us so we can reflect it in the blog. Great initiative!

Hi all! We are officially launching the campaign and project of open source appliances. I attach the links to the campaign content and the video. You are very welcome to participate in also shaping the strategy, since this is basically an experimental domain. Our concerns go beyond making something open source, and really try to articulate political-economy, business models towards open cooperativism, as well as scaling up this initiatives using p2p infrastructures or platforms (airbnb, uber, like infrastructures).
