Creating a vision

PMB Pamela M Bramley Public Seen by 210

Hi everyone Sonia has done a comprehensive document for us to use as a guide to create a group Vision and Mission Statement. This is to large to put in here so I will send it out by email for those of you who are interested in it.

In the meantime the first exercise to do is to answer the questions in step 1 of the vision we see and to share as a group. You will be able to view these questions contained in My answers which I am now going to post for sharing as per step 2 of this process. I hope you will join in the process so we can in the end come up with a group vision that includes all of our views. Cheers Pamela

Given the accepted vision, I like Sonia's mission statements, though do we need to distinguish between shared homes and cohousing? Could we just say "housing" or will CoHOP always be about sharing land and/or buildings? Do you ever foresee a time when CoHOP would be used for the purchase of a lot/home for an individual or individual family? Sonia's original idea included the concept of a single family home being included in CoHOP. For the 2nd mission statement, should we perhaps say "provide secure access rights" instead of ownership rights? The only thing I think is missing from the mission statement(s) based on the accepted vision is how to ensure a diverse and egalitarian community. Perhaps extending the 2nd statement or even adding a fourth statement about valuing all members regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religious beliefs, etc. What do you think?

Regarding the 'Shared Homes' definition . I personally see the community Centre/shared home idea as being part of Cohousing in that it is the 'shared facilities' part, (or residents choosing to share a cohouse together), of Cohousing. The Wikipedia definition of Cohusing is:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cohousing
A cohousing community is a type of intentional community composed of private homes supplemented by shared facilities. The community is planned, owned and managed by the residents – who also share activities which may include cooking, dining, child care, gardening, and governance of the community.
‎Origins - ‎Growth - ‎Design - ‎Ownership form
Coming from this perspective I don"t see that we need to distinguish between shared homes and cohousing

I don't see that CoHOP would specifically purchase a Lot/home for an individual/family. The purchases or builds would always be owned by the CoHOP shareholders which to me would mean an independent home would become part of the CoHOP stock of Cohousing. Although I don't see this happening in the near future.
