Camp Layout

• Open flame safety distance - Every open flame such as campfire, grills, stove etc. should be kept away at least 3m away from other camp element such tents, shade structure, fuel stand, electrical devices etc.
• *Tents and lodging passages *- Tents and other accommodation area should be planned and placed in a way which will ensure emergency escape path. Every camper should have access to a minimum 1.5m wide path.
• Fuels storage - The camp’s fuel containers should be kept at least 5m away from generator and open flame source in away which will prevent fuel spillage on the ground.
  

Equipment

Fire Extinguisher

Camps are required to keep a minimum of one 6kg fire extinguisher for A/B/C fires. A powder extinguisher is recommended.
A fire extinguisher is the first measure of putting out undesirable flames. There are several types of extinguishers match the type of fire it is effective for. Fire are divided into source groups as following:
* Class A - fires involving solid materials such as wood, paper or textiles.
* Class B - fires involving flammable liquids such as petrol, diesel or oils.
* Class C - fires involving gases.
* Class D - fires involving metals.
* Class E - fires involving live electrical apparatus. (Technically ‘Class E’ doesn’t exists however this is used for convenience here)
* Class F - fires involving cooking oils such as in deep-fat fryers.

First Aid

Although Kiezburn maintain a first aid station. It is recommended to be able to treat minor injuries at the camp. A basic kit should contain:
* antiseptic cream
* disposable sterile gloves
* plasters in a variety of different sizes and shapes
* small, medium and large sterile gauze dressings
* sticky tape
* Clean water
* The kit should be stored in reachable and constant spot at the camp, known to all camp members.

Electricity

As most camps have a power grid for a variety of applications such as lights, chargers, sound equipment, kitchen appliances etc., it is important to follow some guidelines of electricity safety:
* Cables - all cables should be buried underground or be hanged at least 2.5m high. Cables which are lying on the ground presents hazards of tripping over them, pulling devices from their whereabouts and damaging cables carrying high voltage.
* Power outlets - all power outlet and power strips should be placed above ground level and secured to a rigid object.
* Fluids and electricity - electricity outlets, power strips and appliances should be separated from fluids sources.
* Hardware - All cables, power strips and installations should be standard and proper. Please do not use improvised electrical components.

Emergency procedures

In case of an emergency, every camp member should be aware of the required actions. Awareness could prevent panic and unnecessary casualties. Plan carefully the following scenarios:
* Fire in the camp
* Medical emergency
* Structural failures (where relevant)

Structures and Installations

Camps who plan on building structures which are 2m high and higher or climbable are required to submit plans for review by the Health & Safety team. In case your camp has such plans, please contact Kieze team
When *putting together a shade structure or other installation in the camp, please be minded of the following subjects: *
* Securing the installation to the ground - winds could easily blow away even heavy structures. Secure everything to the ground.
* Hanged objects - Make sure that hanged objects are tied properly to sufficiently rigid structure
* Stakes, ground nails and string lines - Sharp object which are sticking from the ground could easily cause feet injuries. Cables, ropes and strings might trip participants when not clearly marked at night. Please make sure to soft cover anything which sticks out from the ground and mark with shiny or light reflective band the string lines.

Make sure there is enough space between tents for escape pathway.
