Hiring Practices
In order to bring on a new team member, the members of a Branch must vote that person in to work with them. A Team Captain or the Board of Directors cannot hire unilaterally because hiring is a day-to-day management decision rather than a long-term governance decision.
In order to bring in a new permanent member of the co-op, the Board of Directors must vote that person into the cooperative. Should the Board be able to vote members in permanently before they earn their ownership share, but without governance authority?
The co-op values references from existing members and uses clear set accountability processes to ensure that work is followed through appropriately.
Resumes can be accepted and interviews can be conducted, but co-op hiring priorities include, but are not limited to:
Experience,
The International Cooperative Principle of "Education, Training and Information",
The International Cooperative Principle of "Concern for Community",
The mission statement, "1.6 Purpose . Pecan Milk Cooperative creates dignified work for lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer and transgender communities, people of African descent and other people of color, women, youth, immigrants and folks with a disability throughout a broadly defined South."
