Broadcasting Portfolio: Fully funding public broadcasting

SD Suzie Dawson Public Seen by 132

Hi all - we have agreed that our 2017 manifesto will address public interest broadcasting, as this is an area that was not yet developed in 2014.

This thread is for compiling research/stats/links and opinions surrounding whether we should fully fund the existing public broadcasting, how we can strengthen the sector, and/or expand it.

Please have your say!

" I'm advocating that the government owns the infrastructure"

So it will be impossible to communicate without going through the government. Holy hell.

The government won't be anywhere near it. Same as the government got nowhere near telecommunications when it was state owned - you know, back when it cost us less and we got better service. Same as the government doesn't get anywhere near the RBNZ or any of the other independent SOEs.

If you're worried about privacy then look to the intelligence agencies - and we need those as well.

You know the internet party is founded on the grievance of the government violating privacy yeah?

CE

Colin England Sun 3 Sep 2017 11:22PM

Yes. That means that we need proper regulation and processes in place to prevent the government violating privacy. Handing the internet and telecommunications over to the private sector just means that the private sector now violates our privacy and there's nothing we can do about it while it costs us more.

Who made private communication illegal? The private sector?

CE

No, the private sector made it so that they can see everything you do anywhere in the world. They watch you like a hawk watches its prey.

Who made it illegal then?
