The typical method for a community is to create a document that details governance. This has been done for us with all the legal loopholes fixed through decades of struggle. It's pretty easy to copy some other community's documents and come up with something that works.

Here's a modified Twin Oaks document(bylaws and membership agreement). I changed it to be based on "righteous equality" rather than "sameness equality". The key difference is that you don't have everyone in the community policing each other to enforce sameness.
