Hylo's Collaborative Technology Alliance discussion

Seems to have attracted an amazing number of different projects.

Who's not there? Is that the place where everybody can get together? Or if not, why not?

Awesome topic Bob; thanks. Off the top of my head, I'm not aware of any Ouishare people or projects in the CTA discussion so far. I think Ouishare's very important.

I think that CTA is a place where just about everyone could get together, if there's a bunch of outreach. I was personally happy to see the focus on the term 'Technology' instead of 'Software', because that feels more inclusive to me. Hylo seems suitable. It's not really a neutral space but then neither is Loomio. We don't have many good options IMO on that front. Hylo has one spectacular feature already from my perspective: conversations can be in more than one community at the same time, via tagging. I consider that super important to the future of communications.

I think CTA has a mix right now of nonprofit and for-profit concerns, and probably some proprietary software concerns too. That could cause conflicts, because money talks in many ways, including quiet whispers in the back of one's own mind. I know some brilliant people in CTA who would love to be genuinely inclusive. I think it all just depends on how their discussion and decision processes evolve.

@gregorycassel thanks for the perspective. I'm happy for it to be anywhere, as long as people feel comfortable. Looks to me like a LOT of people/projects are congregating over in Hylo, so awesome! Different interests and philosophies can shake out there over time, but nothing gonna happen if people aren't congregating in some place they can connect.

Re. OuiShare, I think I saw @jonrichter there, so that's a link. Of course he's everywhere! In a good way. :)

I thought Loomio would be relatively neutral because, while Enspiral kicked off the Open Apps Ecosystem idea, as far as I can see, they have more or less abandoned it as a group, with only a couple of people continuing to work on the idea, and not much sense of Enspiral "ownership", even from the beginning. But I'm with Lynn. Whatever works, the more channels the merrier.
Oh, and we both joined the Hylo community.

If we tried to quantify neutrality or lack thereof, I would agree that Loomio is more neutral than Hylo-- but I think you guys both have a great sense of the need for a practically and effectively shared space.

Well, Enspiral is also part of the Collaborative Technology Alliance, and if you look at the link to the announcement above, it's on their Medium blog...

We're not deeply concerned about neutrality, by the way, this was just to see if we could get something started. Sooner or later, I expect it will have outlived its usefulness.

Neutrality is ultimately impossible. :) Good communications, discussion and decision process always minimize conflict of interest issues.

eh, i'm not sure this is true. many prominent Enspiral members are still very keen on the ideas behind the Open Apps Ecosystem, they just felt alienated by the technical direction and thus disengaged. since then i've tried to open up more space for other directions, this re-engagement is a continuation of the same energy in Enspiral.

@ahdinosaur - I'm very happy about that, but would be interested in tons more details.

I don't see any real incompatibility in: "they have more or less abandoned it as a group, with only a couple of people continuing to work on the idea" and "many prominent Enspiral members are still very keen on the ideas". Of course our phrasings can improve.

@gregorycassel I suspect you are missing something. @ahdinosaur is one of the people that I know have continued to work on the idea. So am I. So let's wait.
