Kia ora to this new thread for organising meetings - as we had an old thread that's been closed to simplify our online space, I thought I'd re-post the minutes from our first meeting and remind people that we're aiming to have one online call at 7pm on the third Thursday of each month; no pressure, just if people are free and keen... next one is pencilled in for 17 November :)

Loose process is to raise any issues for discussion here first so people can prioritise whether they turn up, then someone volunteers to host and posts a link (we've used zoom so far). Ideally someone will volunteer to take minutes, then they can be posted back here for those who didn't make it to catch up if they wish.

Think that's it! Any questions or things people would like discussed on the coming call? Chuck them in the thread below :)

Hi everyone, reminder that we have our monthly zoom call coming up tomorrow Thursday 17 November from 7-8pm. Link here – https://auckland.zoom.us/j/91246453237 – look forward to seeing anyone who can make it!

Loose plan is to talk about a collective action we could do as an alliance.. some suggestions so far from @Aaron McLean and @Tāne Feary include a nationwide postering campaign and/or some coordinated guerrilla gardening. Any other suggestions welcome!

Best

Keen to just further preface what I'm proposing in regards to posters / stickers / stencils to encourage dialogue tomorrow but also for transparency for those who don't turn up....

Critically I'm not proposing 'an AFAA action’ that would proclaim to speak on anybody’s or any collective behalf, there would need to be a lot more of us here to contemplate making that sort of statement.

Rather I'm asking into this space if anybody is keen to participate in this sort of action.

My angle is influenced by my being grounded in the arts / communications - ala revolutionary arts movements like The Situationists / Dada / Barbara Kruger / Punk / Hip Hop. And radical music - Jazz / folk / reggae / Punk / Hip Hop / Rave culture.... DIY street level culture building.

I guess an extension of what went on at Stone Soup. So, keeping it positive and generartive, focused on: Pedagogy - Possibilities - Questions - pointing to the cracks where we might already be making other worlds... Rather than prescriptions or critique. Of course others may imagine it differently.

I am so so keen for this, and think starting to collect together some words and posters that we can all use for postering would be such a brilliant resource. Seems like there are a lot of great writers and artists in this community too. Really excited to talk about this - I can't make the meeting tonight but Rebecca might be there!

Kia ora to everyone that attended the call. Minutes attached as a word doc with lot of details for those that didn't make it; short summary below :)

Next meeting is penciled in for 7pm 15 December; I'll post a link and reminder closer to the time.

Best,

Dan

Minutes from third online call for AFAA – Thursday 17 November, 7-830pm

Present:

• Urs, Aaron, Helen, Te Rangikaheke, Jenny, Rebecca, Dan K + brief cameo from Tāne

Summary:

• Excellent relationship building with lots of interesting discussion about various grassroots projects on the go around the motu, including challenges experienced and possible solutions.

• Some discussion about actions we can do together (postering, sharing policy advice and “how to’s” for berm planting as a symbolic and accessible ‘in’), but all speculative for now. Further input welcome in the thread ‘brainstorming actions’

Thanks so much for this Dan, that was some fast writing going on while also participating. Invaluable having these discussions here for all to see and great to be able to go back and recap. So much to be inspired by by these few participants alone.

Hi all, busy ol time of year but figure it's still worthwhile keeping our regular call to check in and keep relationship building going + postering schemings & [anything else people want to discuss].

Call will be tomorrow night = Thursday Dec 15 at 7pm: https://auckland.zoom.us/j/97657603561

Be great to see you if you can make it :)

I'm going to be at an OrganicFarmNZ hui at that time unfortunately. We are consolidating our response to government regulation of the word "organic".

Choice, have had apologies from Helen and Urs as well, so think we'll let it lie for this year! Have a good break and we can try for the third thursday in Jan - which is the 19th :)
