Fellow travellers

A thread to post information about similar projects, ancillary to what we are doing and from which we might learn. Obviously, exactly what we are actually doing is still fluid, but hopefully will become clearer.

I know that Nathan schneider is involved in the https://start.coop project in North America, and will also be at the event in London. There may be others, including Unfound people (I assume that project will be planning/considering a repeat exercise?). Maybe we should try to organise an informal gathering?

Graham Thu 5 Jul 2018 9:31AM
I've sent a message to Nathan. I'm also in email dialogue with Greg Brodsky from start.coop so I'll mention it to him. Who's coming from Australia? Anthony McMullen?

Graham Thu 5 Jul 2018 9:32AM
Oh, no I see you've named Andrew Ward. Doh!

Graham Sat 7 Jul 2018 1:52PM
Nathan has responded positively to the idea of a meet up with us and incubator.coop.
I've also been in touch with Alanna Irving (Loomio co-founder, Enspiralist) now part of Open Collective. I was talking to her about 'Cooperation as a Service' perhaps as a development for Open Collective, perhaps in collaboration with Platform6, start.coop, incubator.coop. She is keen, and has also been having similar conversations with Nathan. Convergence is happening! She sent me this link to a doc by Nathan. Look familiar?

Graham Sat 7 Jul 2018 1:53PM
I've asked if anyone from Open Collective will be at the conference.

Mark Simmonds (Co-op Culture) Sun 8 Jul 2018 12:28PM
I can't get the Sandstorm doc to load - do I need to create an account first?

Graham Sun 8 Jul 2018 1:09PM
It's working for me without doing anything. Takes a few seconds to load, mind you.

I've also just joined the P2P Foundation Wiki which is a crowdsourced collection of resources around Per to Peer (P2P) collaboration. A Platform 6 wiki is one of the ways that we could crowdsource the definitive collection of co-operative development resources.

Graham Thu 5 Jul 2018 7:58AM
Happy to set up a wiki, or perhaps a wiki-ish area within the p6 website. Tell me a bit more about how you see it being used?

Mark Simmonds (Co-op Culture) Thu 5 Jul 2018 8:44AM
I was just about to ask you if we could easily do that.
Wiki MVP1
Purpose
To provide a dynamic and up to date crowd-sourced central
resource for documents, links, providers, research, funding
related to co-operative development
Public facing
P6 members can edit and create content
Non-members can suggest content
At the very least it would provide an easy way for me to refer to
the many resources I am continually referencing.

if you don't want to re-invent the wheel we have this under used wiki that can be used for anything. https://wiki.uk.coop/wiki/Main_Page

Mark Simmonds (Co-op Culture) Thu 19 Jul 2018 9:29AM
Cheers John. I've made a start on a new wheel, but will take look.

Mark Simmonds (Co-op Culture) Thu 5 Jul 2018 8:47AM
It could also drive interest to P6

Mark Simmonds (Co-op Culture) Thu 5 Jul 2018 8:49AM
Probably best that there is an option to be a member of the Wiki without being a subscribing P6 member.
I'm happy to start populating a Wiki

Graham Sun 8 Jul 2018 11:38AM
If you log in at https://platform6.coop/user you should now have access to create wiki pages. Start at https://platform6.coop/wiki/platform-6-wiki
Still some niceties to add in there in terms of user interface, but it lookd broadly functional. Also seems to be running a bit slow, for me at least, so I may need to beef things up and/or tweak some config

Mark Simmonds (Co-op Culture) Sun 8 Jul 2018 12:20PM
Cheers Graham. Can log in OK. Probably worth a chat before I
start creating. I'd like to make it open to non-members too once
it has some content.

Graham Sun 8 Jul 2018 1:10PM
No worries. Just start writing. That's the hard bit. All else is fixable.

Mark Simmonds (Co-op Culture) Sun 8 Jul 2018 2:05PM
I'll need to know how to upload files @graham2

Graham Sun 8 Jul 2018 2:42PM
I've added a file attachment/upload field to the wiki page creation/edit form. You should be able to upload files of the specified types and max size. Once uploaded the page will display the url of the uploaded file, which you can then choose to embed in your text as a hyperlink.
I'll probably add a simple WYSIWYG editing toolbar in due course to the body field to make life a bit easier for formatting and links.

Graham Sun 8 Jul 2018 3:31PM
If you need more let me know

Ian Snaith Thu 5 Jul 2018 10:14AM
Wide access to the wiki would be great. I'd like to learn more about this whole project.
Mark Simmonds (Co-op Culture) · Thu 5 Jul 2018 6:32AM
I've been contacted by Andrew Ward of Incubator Co-op who look to be doing something similar in Australia. Andrew will be at Open 2018.
