It would be interesting, in my opinion, and very useful to better understand our real-life social graph and reach.

Yup, that's a great idea. We could leave it optional to avoid asking too much info to new members....
Agreed with Mayel & Michele on adding it optionally to the membership form.
We could easily also add that as an (optional) question to the request membership form
