Governance for renovating p2p bazaar / SENSORICA lab.

TB Tiberius Brastaviceanu Public Seen by 312

Goal: Create a set of simple rules around the renovation activities for the SENSORICA Montreal lab.

Our experience on the ground has revealed two major issues:

  • Process for high risk tasks / activity items (construction of the bathroom floor for example)
  • Process for spending common funds (not individual money)

The arguments (elsewhere) are revolving around efficiency and speed of action on one side, and shared risk, quality peer-reviewed designs, cost reduction and respect for those who have skin in the gamed (those with personal responsibilities and with investment in SENSORICA) on the other side.

More context is given in this thread from SENSORICA main mailing list.

@yanickvezina FYI, the NRP All Work page was originally designed for when Sensorica had weekly meetings. It was intended to be used during the meeting. You can filter by project, so can see all the current processes for this project. Then add discussion notes and change estimated dates on the spot, as well as people can take tasks.

Might be of interest if your proposal passes.

And if you all end up actively using it, please let us know if you would like improvements.

Ok thanks Lynn i did not know that.

@yanickvezina I voted, bu I would create a separate issue for this. This page can be used for decisions for governance for spendings and risky operations, particularly in the context of lab renovations. Once we close this decision I think this will be blocked...
Or I can create another issue.

@yanickvezina No problem Yanick, this is learning in progress : )

You can remove your proposal and start a new decision. After that, someone can make a proposal for the original decision, here.

@tiberiusbrastavice what incident are you referring to in the latest email ({SENSORICA} Renovations - on organization of work)?

In order to avoid future conflicts "If you get the go from the community" should be defined in a measurable way. Any of the following are ideas (I am not supporting any idea in particular since I am so far away):
- 'n' more affiliates agree (by email, or some formal writing)
- put idea to a community vote on loomio or similar and x% of respondents should support with a minimum % of respondents
- 'n' guardians support the idea

Also I think it will help if:
- every proposal, action would have a clear time frame to be discussed and clear date when the decision is taken. As an example, how long it will be until this rules are established? It has been almost a month since this was initiated.
- maybe a subgroup can be created for this project with those that use the lab or have interest in the project Emails, notifications will go only to them, specially on current issues.
- the role of renovation coordinator should be created. It could be assigned to one or more affiliates at the same time. It would probably not have decision power (depending how the group decides). The coordinator(s) will be the one to know/ask when something is done, what needs to be done, who is doing it, etc. Of course all this information can be on a electronic document but updating lacks and is good to have o human to double check things.
