Presidential nominationg events

This proposal has been edited based on feedback from Baltimore City and Baltimore County
Stage 1 Neutrality and Web Site
1. The MGP will publish a prominent webpage http://www.mdgreens.org/2020_presidential modeled after the Green Party of the United States' page hosted at https://www.gp.org/2020. This page will be announced through all official MGP e-mail and social media accounts, and linked to the front page of mdgreens.org.
An individual not affiliated with any Presidential campaign will be assigned to maintain this page, and their name and contact information will be publicly listed on that page.
Every Presidential candidate who meets our criteria (see Note 1 below) will be invited to forward any public statement, including event announcements, for publication on this page. All statements will be published to that page either exactly as forwarded or with edits made in cooperation with the campaign's representatives.
All official communication from the MGP (including postings on https://www.facebook.com/marylandgreenparty, https://twitter.com/mdgreens, mdgreens.org, or e-blasts originated from the Maryland Green Party) will include a link to this page.
A disclaimer (such as "This message does not imply endorsement of any candidate by the Maryland Green Party") will be included in any official communication from the Maryland Green Party in which space allows.
A disclaimer and link to the MGP's above-mentioned candidate webpage will be including as an automated footer in all messages generated on the MGP-CC listserve until the party's nomination process is concluded.
Stage 2 Questions from Greens to candidates
1.During July and August individual Maryland Greens and local chapters can submit questions that the MGP will curate and pass on to candidates.
Each candidate will get a standard set of questions.
Answers to these questions will be posted on the website and will be shared on social media.
Stage 3 Townhalls and one on one interviews
- During September and October each recognized candidate will be offered the opportunity to participate in an hour long townhall hosted on zoom and broadcast on facebook or another platform.
2.The townhall will include some question and answer from a host on the MGP-CC, and then questions from individual Maryland Greens.
3.Advanced notice of each townhall will be posted on the MGP website and social media.
Stage 4 Nominating process.
Our bylaws currently state
(2) President and Vice-President: Candidates for President and Vice President shall be chosen at a Green Party National Nominating Convention, although the MGP reserves the right not to run the candidates selected at such conventions. The MGP at the MGP Assembly immediately prior to a presidential national nominating convention shall hold a Convention and decide by preference vote the presidential nominee for the purpose of instructing delegates to that national nominating convention how to vote on behalf of the MGP. Delegate allotment shall be determined according to Article 5, Section 2 of these Interim Bylaws.
I suggest we change this to make our presidential primary a “first in the nation primary” the weekend between Iowa and New Hampshire for the Democrats. Or at least to have the flexibility to place our primary at a time other than june (when the nomination is already decided)
This is contingent on the GPUS having certified all of the eligible candidates by this time
Note 1
Note 1:
"Before the Green Party of the United States' Presidential Campaign Support Committee has finalized its rules for recognition of declared candidates for the Green Party nomination for President for 2020, the Maryland Green Party will require the following for candidates to be considered eligible to participate in Maryland Green Party sponsored events or promoted content as described above:
that the candidate not be a registrant of any state or national political party in the individual’s primary state of residence except for a state party which has affiliated with GPUS, or a party forming for the intent of GPUS affiliation in a state where there is no GPUS affiliated state party;
that the candidate has established a campaign committee and filed with the Federal Election Commission or has publicly declared an exploratory committee to seek the Green Party's nomination for President of the United States;
has a website to promote their candidacy; and
Has publicly promoted fundraising ability, either with an online donation portal or mailing address capable of receiving campaign contributions."

We need an open transparent process where Maryland Greens can learn what all of the candidates stand for. A strong process and early primary will lift up the Green Party nomination process.

I agree with all three stages.
