Musical Guests

T Tricia Public Seen by 13

When we first started planning we talked about inviting musicians in the movement to come and share. We decided not to pursue celebrities -- except Tom Morello and others who have out themselves out there for Occupy or who might want to come like Russell Brand

If we could get posters made to look like the Bring Tents original OWS sign but say "Bring Guitars and drums" Inviting people to bring their musical instruments to this event will make it more aurally pleasing than the usual "What do we want..when do we want it" chants. How about we encourage even fledgling musicians to come out and perform on the streets and parks and marches in Sacramento?

THere was an Occupy musician who attended NatGat last year who had an original song about the 1 vs the 99%; he was only there for Sunday, i believe; wanted to sing but not sure he would be welcomed, whom to approach, etc. I encouraged him to go for it, to talk to KNOW, which was leading the peace day. He got a few minutes at the mike at the end of the day, it was a good song, totally appropriate for the gathering. Making more moments like that happen is what the gathering is—if not ALL about, at least largely about.
Yes, we always need music, and live is best!

Creation of Music Stirring* Committee for Nat Gat 2014 Closed Sun 4 May 2014 8:05PM

I propose we extend invites to known #OWS musical groups & comrades and empower them to co-create the music programing.

We do have a Guitarmy.

*Stirring Committee = A Horizontal Occupied Version of a Steering Committee

We should be inviting all sorts of groups; do we need a spreadsheet and Facebook/e-mail party? It seems as though that would be a reasonably easy way to go.

Sally please lets not put the horse before the cart.

Let the stake holders make themselves known first then when empowered you can continue the discussion on the tactics and plan of action.

Do we need to wait for permission to invite people? I am confused; are we not all empowered without formal permission from some hierarchy?

Sally-

We are Self empowered yes but we are taking autonomous actions to support the effort until the stakeholders give consent.

Till this point anyone could & should be inviting people but going forward we'd let this group run with effort.

This would allow folks to become an empowered group by showing interest here. Members of that group would coordinate the effort. We as a group would trust & defer to their suggestions allowing people to focus on areas that they are passionate about.

(Reverse engineering the consent for idea while allowing new stakeholders to self select formally.)

This is the accountability side of Occupy creeping in.
