Blockchain and ECA

GP George Pór Public Seen by 150

Did you know that the EU launched a Blockchain Observatory and Forum? And that the EU will fund projects that could draw on blockchain technologies for up to €340 million? Why it is important for commoners to pay attention to blockchain and in which direction that technological breakthrough will evolve? Because it may well be that it will affect society in more fundamental ways than the Internet did.

It can become a platform for IBM and few mega-corporations to control, entire industries and public administrations, and/or:

“In its purest form [blockchain] promotes a redistribution of power from central actors across wide communities of peers... While the most idealistic and revolutionary visions of blockchain development will probably remain no more than visions, even moderate implementation of blockchain may still promote some degree of redistribution and transparency.” — from the EU Parliament report (2017)

There's a window of opportunity to act and influence the direction where all this will go. Are you interested to discover how? If you're already doing it, let us know so that we can grow some collective intelligence around this critical development.

Hi George, interesting idea.

I am only a bit concerned about the proliferation of threads/groups and I wonder if this topic could be part of the existing thread Open App Ecosystem and Collaborative Technology Alliance.

BTW, I am involved in an action-research project called Co-city funded by H2020 Urban Innovative Actions program ( http://www.uia-initiative.eu/fr/uia-cities/turin ). The aim of the academic contribution is to create an interoperable system via a distributed ledger technology allowing interactions and transactions between citizens. We are just getting started and as soon as we publish a Work Package (before the end of the year) I will share it here.
I co-edited a book with Zach Walsh - Co-Designing Economies in Transition: Radical Approaches in Dialogue with Contemplative Social Sciences, in which I address this topic from an enactive perspective. I attach the preprint of my chapter and the ToC of the book.

Kind regards,

   Enzo
