Spokes Council

NJJ Nijil Jamal Jones Public Seen by 7

The spokes-council is the hub of a wheel of "spokes," representatives of each team.

Every team elects a spoke by 66.66% every year, for a term starting April 1st.

Team members are empowered to recall or oust or replace the spoke by a 33.33% threshold of votes.

The purpose of the "spoke" is to deliberately redistribute power, especially by sharing information in an additional way and by deliberating creating strong formal lines of communication between teams.

The duties of the "spoke" of a team are to make sure that notes or recorded for team meetings!

And they regularly meet with other team spokes to discuss what is happening in different areas of the cooperative. Then, they report that information back to their team members.

The decision-making authority of the "spoke" is simply and only to represent the decisions of their team members within the spokes-council. The spokes-council is empowered to reach decisions for the cooperative by 66.66%, but decisions reached through a directly democratic vote of members always supersedes and triumphs over the decisions and authority of the spokes-council.

The spokes-council and the elected spokes are responsible for meeting regularly to share information with each other and then relaying that information to their team members.

It sounds promising and appropriate inside a larger group. I am not opposed to it , but feels like something for a team of 20 or more people. I believe the size we are at now just requires more commitment to learning communication styles and trust building not further delegation . If we believe as the next year passes we will amass at least 10- 15 more members, then my vote is yes.

Listening to Jamie, I don't think that we can expect the teams do become 20 folks big, because even as we expand, it would be into more kitchens into more places. So this structure may be burdensome for a smaller team.
