In addition to the Email sent this afternoon from Info- this thread has been created for members to ask any questions regarding Restrictive Practices (especially Unauthorised Restrictive Practices). We will also post some additional information/resources on here for your info.

Steps involved in reporting a Reportable Incident within Jeder:

  1. Complete the Incident Register as soon as possible after the incident (or within 12 hours). The Incident Register is located on Sharepoint (left hand side under registers)- classify this as a Reportable Incident.

  2. Notify your coach and/or Board member of the incident with 12 hours- this is designed to ensure you (and others involved) have the appropriate support in place (i.e. debriefing, medical assistance, EAP services etc).

  3. Log into the NDIS Commission site (through PRODA) and select your role as Reportable Incident Notifier. Complete all relevant sections within this notification and submit. Once submitted, please advise Jason Emmins of this (either text or phone call). Jason then has to review the information and as the Authorised Reportable Incident Approver, he submits this to the NDIS Commission. Strict reporting timeframes are set by the NDIS Commission.

  4. Maintain contact with the person/participant to ensure their ongoing safety/wellbeing. Please note a member of the NDIS Commission Reportable Incidents team may contact Jeder (either Jason or the individual member).

  5. Within 5 days of the Original Incident, a 5 Day Risk Assessment will be completed within the NDIS Commission Website. Jason Emmins will contact the relevant Jeder Member to obtain details of the Risk Assessment. The Risk Assessment is determined by the NDIS Commission and may require members to obtain other information/reports (for example Police, Ambulance, Hospital, Assessments/Plans).

  6. Within 30-60 days, complete a debrief and review of the incident. This may be reported back to the NDIS Commission as a final outcome.

Hi, I have had a couple of questions regarding Interim and Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans from some of our Support Coordinators. More details can be found by clicking on this link: Understanding behaviour support and restrictive practices - for providers | NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (ndiscommission.gov.au)

In summary:

  • Interim Behaviour Support Plan is developed within one month of a Behaviour Support Practitioner being aware of the need for Authorised Regulated Restrictive Practices or there are high risk situations that will warrant the need for an interim behaviour support plan.

  • Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan is developed within 6 months of engaging with a Behaviour Support Practitioner.

  • Not all Behaviour Support Plans need to be registered with the NDIS Commission. Only behaviour support plans with any Regulated Restrictive Practices need to be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguard Commission. This is the responsibility of the Behaviour Support Practitioner. Support Coordinators do not need to upload Behaviour Support Plans into the NDIS Commission Portal.

  • Behaviour Support Plans are regularly and routinely reviewed by the Behaviour Support Practitioner.

In terms of Jeder's requirements for Support Coordinators, if you are supporting an individual that has a Behaviour Support Plan (or funding to access Behaviour Support/Improved Relationships), once you receive a copy of the Behaviour Support Plan, you can upload this to Echidna (under Documents and Behaviour Support Plan). You can also complete the Client Tab by entering in all the details- this may help you keep track of any plans that are due to expire. The classify Tab (under actions) can also assist you in tracking when important documents may be required for review. I will send an email later today/this evening with Echidna visual guides (I cant seem to upload screen shots into Loomio).

As always, please keep questions coming.
