Toppling the closed culture monopolists

For upstarts, open source is absolutely more profitable than proprietary, and free culture is more profitable than copyright. But how do we topple the existing power structure of giant corporations that ARE profiting massively from closed culture?

Will getting rid of copyrights and patents just make this power structure naturally collapse, or do we need to do more?
