Hi folks

I was thinking one way to outline the event today would be to have a quick go around, and anyone who wants to talk about their project or their situation can do so for a few minutes.

Then perhaps we could break into little groups and discuss some questions/issues.

My suggestions are:
1. What does housing success look for you, and what are the steps on the pathway to making that happen? How far along are you?

  1. There are several large tracts of land owned by the government, which plans to privatise them with developer led building projects.
What would you do if you had part of these lands?

  2. What are the next steps for our groups take collectively to help each other out and make housing projects like ours a real option for people generally?

If you have any thoughts or other suggestions please add :)

Here are some rough notes/minutes on the meetup last night:

We started with introductions: Davie started by saying where Cloughjordan is at by way of creating co-housing, John mentioned his interests as tiny housing and cryptocurrencies, Aaron mentioned he was a democratic schooling activist moving into a Yurt and wants to do something similar with housing, Leo said he previously owned a coop house in Denmark and wants to do the same in ireland, Eldin is a teacher looking for land in Ireland and wants to start a food forrest, Tracy explained her interest in coops, Jules said what his situation was. Emer mentioned she is an architect and running the Community Land Trust project, Cillian said he is part of the dublin housing coop project, Michael said what he is doing in Kilkenny with Camphill building new communities, Kate explained the history and situation with the Wicklow Kith & Kin coop which has been in development for 3 years, Richie mentioned the work he's doing with Oliver Bond st flats. Milton mentioned his social project idea for housing, Damien spoke about what he's doing in Portlaoise, Amanda was from the college of surgeons and wants to see what was happening ( a few other people came in later and didnt get to make introductions)

From there Davie pulled out some issues that people mentioned in the intros: getting land, legal and other structures, internal agreements etc, financing, eligibility for welfare etc...

We decided to make a quick map of projects we are working on and of ones we know about

Emer gave a bit of a talk about getting land and what to do with it from a CLT perspective

There was discussion on this and other issues

We briefly discussed next steps and then we had to go (as we promised the host venue we'd be out on time :) )

Overall people seemed happy and positive to have come out, some from far away on not the most enticing of nights

Thanks everyone that was very informative and encouraging /inspiring. It's great that there are so many different variations out there. Some comments Leo made even before the meeting had started were particularly interesting and useful for us.(also expanded on by Davie later) That was about legislation concerning coop versus company limited by guarantee.
Liability issues and the need of having to audit the accounts ...there is a crucial difference between the two.

Glad I came.
