Demonstration proposal Closed Wed 7 Mar 2018 9:03AM

This is a proposal, where you can make a decision together. You can start a proposal once a discussion is underway.

Everyone is asked to state a position by the deadline. You can extend the deadline if you need to, or close a proposal early.

You can change your position while the proposal is open. You might reconsider your view as you listen to others.

Sometimes groups work through a series of proposals to build solutions together. You can raise sequential proposals in this thread.

I have an opinion. It is very loud and just like Milton Friedman makes everybody look stupid who doesn't agree. Is it democracy if you fall for my demagogy? :hugging: How are emojis meant to bring fact-orientedness to this debate? :wrestlers_tone5:

If I fall for demagogy is that different from delegation in any meaningful way? When I trust someone on an issue and I delegate to them then I am following them. Demagogy is just taking this too far, as happens when we delegate all our votes to someone who we cannot discuss with. Delegation is useful, good even. Voting for someone based ony on a poster or their tweets is not.

Emotion is both a de facto aspect of democracy, and a philosophically important one. When I delegate my support to someone I want to know both what they stand for, AND what they are made of. I might agree with a psychopaths factual appraisal of a position, but that does not mean I want to delegate my votes to them :)
