We must respect the territorial sovereignty of the Native American tribes. Pipelines must not cross into Native American territory.

Wish it was up to me.

What do you mean?

Since this is the NY Green Party, should our plank on Indiginous Nations include any points specific to the native people's of NY? For example the right of Mohawks from NY, QC and ON to freely travel within Akwesasne Nation without checking in at Canadian Port of Entry, or the validity of the Iroquois Passport? Or the necessity of Oneida Nation placing land they are purchasing in Oneida and Madison County into Federal Trust?

Does Mike's suggestion work for you?

  • The Federal government will issue, recognize and not unreasonably withhold the granting of a visa, where necessary, to Native Americans to cross national borders in order to access sovereign land.

Okay with me @adriennecraigwilli. @alexisbhagat are you okay with this language suggested by @mikeyochim for the separate concern you raised: "The Federal government will issue, recognize, and not unreasonably withhold the granting of a visa, where necessary, to Native Americans to cross national borders in order to access sovereign land."

That language doesn't really address either of the issues I brought up, i.e. (1) recognizing the Haudenausanee passport and (2) permitting Mohawks to freely travel within Akwesasne Nation without checking in at US-Candian border control. Anyway, maybe the first is too big and the second too specific. I do not approve the suggested text around visa's, but am happy to withdraw my original suggestion. I hope in a future year, we can get input from the Haudenausanee nations or other nations in NY for our platform plank. But right now, let's just let you finish your revision!

Okay, we'll strike the draft plank on this point

Adrienne- Sorry, my bad, didn't see the 'I' in front of "put it in the platform."

Alexis- I think that is a very complicated topic. It involves a few moving parts. It involves another country for one. It would involve Homeland Security for another. Perhaps something along the lines of, the Federal government will issue, recognize and not unreasonably withhold the granting of a visa to Native Americans to cross borders in order to access sovereign land.
