Clarifying questions about the crowd-resourcing proposal draft

BR Ben Roberts Public Seen by 214

Ben Roberts, lead convener of Co-opathon2015, is proposing to launch a "crowd-resourcing campaign" on Monday, September 14, as the next phase of the Co-opathon gathering. Prior to that date, he requests that those who wish to weigh in on his proposal do so using this Loomio group, via the following process (adapted from sociocracy/holacracy):

  1. _ Ask clarifying questions using this thread (ideally by end of day Thursday)_
  2. Offer responses, including suggestions for improvements and concerns you have about whether or not this is "safe enough to try" via the other open discussion thread in this Loomio group (ideally by midday Friday)
  3. Discuss and vote on a modified version of this proposal that Ben will offer in response to 1 and 2 above, to be posted by end of day Friday, with voting closing by end of day Sunday)

Is the crowdfunding campaign on dana going to be mentioning/asking the public if they'd like to offer some time commitment and/or is the platform for just the monetary component?

I believe dana.io only supports financial contributions, so we will need other methods for gathering non-monetary commitments. Another element TBD. #messiness

Our app can track that. But we haven't got projects implemented, gonna cost £1.2k and I am waiting for event next week to give it the go ahead; old prototype does but it is a bugger to register users. So, we're not ready for 14th.

Awesome David, our tech will also help people map, find and synergize time/skills/etc and also not ready!!! Can be frustrating when what you envision and know is waiting for funding/coders to realize it!

Ben, my question was also, is the crowdfunding campaign speaking to the larger world in inviting time donations or is that aspect being just prototyped among co-opathon participants?

The proposal is to invite Co-opathon participants to reach out to their networks for both monetary and non-monetary resources, Bret.

Is the proposed 7% in addition to credit card processing fees? The Dana website mentions that there's a direct payment option, but I expect that most people will choose to pay with a credit card and that usually has an additional ~3% fee on crowdfunding platforms.

Yes, it's in addition to processing fees. You can also set up a direct contribution option to avoid PayPal fees etc. They also take bitcoin.

The link www.bit.ly/cthon2015crowdprop doesn't work for me. It says the page doesn't exist.

I get the google doc when I open it outside of the loomio platform

Thanks, Mark. I think I fixed that now.
