Information Party

FL Fred Look Public Seen by 866

I am proposing that we change our name to the Information Party,
I suggest that this change would
1 register that we are under new management
2 more accurately describe what we are about
3 is an evolution from internet party not a repudiation of it

Oh and we could carry on calling ourselves "I P"

  • I see nothing wrong with Internet Party
  • Information Party just sounds wrong

Why this sudden decision to change?

@colin Please expound on premises & axioms that make information sound wrong.

Do the same also for internet.

I think information is a progression that means the party will head in a direction based on evidence and science, rather than "internet" culture which has both positive & negative connotations.

As in, the two words just don't together. The same could be said of the Internet Party really but it's sunk in now.

I think information is a progression that means the party will head in a direction based on evidence and science

Nope, the two words do not bring about that impression. IMO, they bring about a WTF!!??? impression.

If you wanted that then we'd have to go for The Science Party and, personally, I'd want something a little more inspirational.

The Stars Party - Reach for the Stars (and, yes, I believe that NZ actually needs our own version of NASA)
The Future Party - The Future is what we make it

Parties that chop and change are rightly perceived as indecisive, and changing only to reverse a previous failure. Changing horses in mid stream asks for a ducking. 'Internet' is a word that is part of everyone's life, it is perpetually modern. There is no good reason for changing. I think you will lose support and gain nothing. If it ain't broke... 'Information' sounds like a purveyor of information, a kind of library, something bland, meaningless. 'What does that mean?' is the question it will arouse in the mind of Joe Public.

Only roughly about 1% of Joe Public thought Internet Party was a good choice in the last election. Colin & Angelo, you and I may be part of that 1% that thought Internet Party was a reasonable label, however let's not generalise any assumptions about what appeals to the other 99% - especially seeing as they never voted for IP so we have little way of knowing what may be more attractive to that 99%.

I see nothing wrong with making a few iterations of the branding label over the next few campaigns until the movement settles on something that is attractive, comfortable, and compelling to many people. Information is not a farcry from the initial Internet, so it isn't too outrageous. To exercise free thinking, creativity and agency.
I would be happy to try it.
However, if we look at it a little more algorithmically:

For our first election we got fully positive (+infinite%, because didn't exist previously) growth using "Internet Party".
If this discussion results in the majority consensus deciding to stick with "Internet", then I propose that if the next campaign in comparison to the 2014 campaign results in negative growth, stagnant growth, or growth is marginal (say less than 100% growth or +30000 votes - roughly only an extra 1% population gain), then that should be cause for a branding change to stimulate growth in subsequent campaigns.
I propose this: Everytime the party experiences negative or stagnant growth as a result of a campaign, it must reflect and rebrand to something hopefully more attractive.
When a campaign is successful it is up to party membersto decide whether they wish for branding change but it is not necessarily imperative.
Now that's #information.

Also I recommend we confederate with other small marginal and emerging parties in time for the next election to pool our member lists and elect candidates to put up for each electorate and the party list.
- ManaM, ALCP, 1080P, PPNZ, the emerging Awareness Party, Democrats for Social Credit, and perhaps others.

Well, if we started networking with other parties, it would probably be wise to keep the Internet Party label, so that branding presence is recognizable in any new partnership arrangements.

Therefore this is my preference: If we remain standalone, then we should be renamed to Information Party. However if we form partnerships with other minor parties then it would be wiser to keep the original Internet Party brand.

No need for this - say something meaningful - make your point clearly, concisely and with conviction - this is what we should do for the sake of NZ

thank you Sean. And I feel the same about trying to form a coalition with all the other minor parties - a proposal which is also being mooted right now.
