Meat Orders

Do we want to widen out and offer meat again? If so, how do we organise this. It will involve fresh people picking up on some of the work.

Attached is the note I sent about this to the Executive. In summary - (1) we would need to get a small group of people together to organise this - not just the folk who are already working hard for CSFVC. and (2) some of the problems we would need to overcome are listed.

Eureka Street and Tennyson Street people would be keen

Discovery members would have an interest in undertaking meat orders. Your note covers all points to be considered very well and it would be sensible to have Craig Dixon involved (perhaps lead) on this. This is a great way to start the discussion, gauge interest (vote) and if there is sufficient interest set up a team to undertake a feasibility review/study. The price of the meat (cost per kg), type of meat on offer and how to ensure the meat stays frozen until it reaches households are important matters to consider. Even though once you leave a supermarket taking home frozen or refrigerated goods are an individual's responsibility there's something about the offer being made through a co-op and the community aspects/purpose that CSFVC fosters that could spell for potential public relations catastrophe if we were to get this wrong.

While Discovery would definitely be interested in ordering meat, as a suggestion perhaps we should suggest, consider and review other easier items to add to the 'shop' first such as dry goods e.g. breakfast cereals.

Rowley Resource Centre have an issue with transportation and our limits on what volumes we can get back to base. This will be the case with all 'extra' items that may be offered and is the case for offering potatoes to our members. We simply do not have the volunteers to help with the transporting the items back to the rooms. If this did happen to change, we would want to know what cuts of meat would be available to order each week and a number of us weren't keen on it being frozen. Thanks

It would need to be a super good deal to make the extra work worth it. I am sure Rolleston people would be keen.
