What facilities would you need in our venue/campsite/etc.?

Tents? or should people bring their own? Cooking facilities, tables and chairs if possible, air conditioning or lots of shade, bathrooms/portapotties, space for evening activities (movies, teach-ins, GA's, yoga, etc.), parking, electricity or generator(s), space for (how many people? 300? 500?), nurse or other medic, (our own) security (Brown Berets provide security at many Sac protests)

Lisa; that is off topic for this discussion; can we start another for that? None of that (except electricity, maybe generators) relates to the online aspect, which is (I thought) what this discussion is about.

we will probably need a tent for teck storage and canopys for online outreach area... i am bringing my hp envy 17 it can run multipal feeds just need extra monitors and a few other tidbits... bringing a 10 man tent and a canopy.also we might do some teaching anonimity online to folks and discs with software ready to installl etc will need usb internet connection(costley stuff)

We are starting to ask for budgets so we can crowdfumd for specific things, like the caravan and sanitation and food. If you make an estimate on how much you'll need we could see about setting up a crowdfumd for tech or use the one crowd funding site or the donate button to the AfGJ for all bottomliner budget items .

Well the kitchen/decompress area will need wifi.
That should be rented. I priced those once. I am not certain if I documented the cost through.
To design something you gotta know what you need first.
Let's start with 3 hotspots....... Ok I picked up the phone and called on of the places we had talked about on April 2nd Markos Michada << so spelled wrong I am sure. << picked up ad will be sending me specs and prices.
To architect the specs of what there is to work with is needed. Markos is sending that to the JCorg .
I will forward to the tech team and try to map rough guideline out . If I think about it , I'll throw the call up on the site along with the pics I am trying to get rolling this evening. http://natgat.juliaclark.org/index.html

if we pick an indoor venue like the "mall" then power will be covered, but we may still need hot spots if there's no internet there already too. some of the coordination, restreaming, etc. can be done off site by Occupiers at home too. it's something those of us who cannot travel can help with. Robert AC may have some input, and Dan is getting Occupy Television ready to launch by then. might be good to list our "known assets" like at home help and the equip Bobby mentioned

Yes, and let's make sure that the group of individuals who want to provide social media updates or live stream reports has support from -- and accountability to -- the NG Organizing Group via weekly calls in the lead-up and NG participants via GAs.

I think the online component needs a team dedicated to making it happen and includes more than the viewing audience - thought it was about ways to participate in the gathering online through discussions, skillshares, etc.

I never heard back from Markos. A bit of research and maybe freedompop is not the way to go for the wifi.
I can still reach out to freedompop and see what they can provide at what cost, but I was not able to pick up the phone and ring them because they have taken their number off their website.

Who was next on the list for wifi recruitment? If anyone remembers...

@juliaclark I do not see anything in the Linked In profile that suggests that Freedom Pop is not the way to go, unless you are thinking that it is too new/small? Of course, you talked to them, not I, so cerrtainly take your lead on this.
What made me think they would be appropriate is their tag line, “The Internet is a right, not a privilege” and their interest in providing services in neighborhoods that are under-served. Not sure of their capacity or interest (latter not looking good if they are not returning calls.)

@jackie I was concerned about the negative feedback about customer service. Coupled with the fact they did not email the information promised. Markos seemed a bit, ...err how you say... put upon when associating with the Occupations. I am pretty sure I recorded the conversation. I'll up load it and reach out to them again, right now.

They had removed thier number from thier website, however, I had it in my records. I just called them and they left me on automated hold for over ten minutes. Considering I asked for information to be emailed and he did not do such, I am wondering if "the internet should be free" is a gimmick .

O.K, not returning calls/extensive holds are bad. I have had no problems myself, but no need to call on customer service once the device was activated (and that was a simple call), so cannot comment on overall CS.

Reasonably fair points in the Time article; careful reading showed me all of this, but it could have been clearer. I was unaware that there was a 99¢ fee; guess I have never gone a month without using it! Recently I have been able to get Optimum at work; previously I could not and did many a NatGat Facebook party last year with my FreedomPop.
Anyway, it seems clear that they are not interested; sorry to ramble on.

in the twitter best practices discussion the idea of making a Tumblr page came up. It looks like an good and easy way to congregate all the streams and images in a blog. It'll keep people up to date and eliminate the need for a stand-alone website.

I created an Online Component subgroup.

Once we have a lot of energy for something, let's move into smaller working groups, so the main page holds items of group wide interest or need, and the subgroups organize around the work.

Please join the group if you are going to contribute to the online component.

On the home page (click Occupy National Gathering above), to the right of the list of discussions, there's boxes with Description, Sub-Groups, Previous Decisions. Click and view the subgroup and ask to join.

It really will make it easier in the long run - this is going to take a lot of pieces to put together. A lot of folks like something but can't help with. It helps communication with the people working on the project to consolidate comms space.

I could be wrong. loomio's design of the main list is pretty easy to navigate. just going by former models of forming wgs for working teams. they created the sub-groups category, so I'm figurin' it's meant to be used.

Don't do twitter...think it is a waste of time...just sayin...this actually might be a mute point, since I will be on the ground anyway...but for others? I know an awful lot of people that don't do Twitter...if that helps in the decision-making process...if we want to stream...try not to make it too difficult to do, technologically, we are a simple folk, and if you want to reach outward to all: remember that! You need to take the time to do the Audio Wizard and adjust your sound. Phil Andrews, who hosts the server recommends doing it with normal household noise. It's awful if the sound isn't right. If it is it is fun. You can talk and take stack like maestro, and chat live at the same time. It was really cool with the 80+ on the transnational call on last year's natgat.

@marktaylorcanfield Again we basically failed at remote (though the media call on Thursday went well). This should be our top goal for next year, I think, especially if we consider doing regional gatherings rather than a resource-intensive national gathering.
