What should we do with the Podmaster account?

EK Emmanouel Kapernaros Public Seen by 11

I have made [email protected] account to auto-share with every new user. I did this to be able to post important pod related things and everyone can see it.

Some users don't like this because they think that this account somehow can see their private posts (like a facebook friend). There is also an ongoing discussion on the main diaspora group

Are the messages encrypted in the database?
If not, the pod administrator can access the posts / conversations / messages even if you do not share with him / her.
Could the messages be encrypted before they are stored in the database?

@xekarfwtos No, messages are not encrypted in the db. The podmin can see everything if he wants. By the way I am the podmin and the Podmaster account is also mine.

So you believe it is the same thing? Isn't scary to see someone auto-followed just by registering?

I do not understand as self-Followed can spy on a user, I always want to follow
these channels.
Could this be desactivao by users who do not want?

@emmanouelkapernaro Maybe a pop-up message at the first login to inform the user that if he wants to be informed about the pod, he should follow the podmin account, would be a nice workaround.
But, it does not solve the problem. The podmin is able to see everything if he wants.
Do you know if there is a plan to add data encryption in the future?

@juansantiago yes, they can just remove podmaster from their aspects.

I also believe that it is not a bad thing to have this account on auto-sharing.

@xekarfwtos I think we should open another discussion for the encryption matter.

Podmaster account for the purpose of informing users is it ok? (besides the encryption problem)
The pop-up question workaround is something I am considering. Are there any other suggestions?

@EmmanouelKapernaros @xekarfwtos
If users can stop following, i not see what the problem, the popap or the similar is very good thing

@emmanouelkapernaro Yes, we should open another thread for encyption. I would always follow a podmin account even if it was optional.
@juansantiago It is not a problem, but in my opinion you should always inform the user about auto-following.

The podmaster's account is fine by me. I'd follow it anyway. I think we all know that admins can see everything should they choose to do so and that we all sign up for a pod in good faith, don't we? In that sense, the pop-up would be the easiest workaround. Hopefully, until data encryption is fully applied one day.

An explanatory pop-up window and the ability to stop following the podmaster are more than enough - i 'm pretty sure that everyone wants to follow the admin and get often updates for the pod, tips to get the most out of the service and general announcements , especially the new users! Data encryption is very important for most of us but it's another topic...
