Nerd Summit Sponsorship

KP Kayla Patel Public Seen by 150

Hi all - At last week's board meeting we talked about potentially sponsoring NERD Summit 2019 (https://nerdsummit.org/). I found out a little bit more about the organization behind the conference from my colleague and wanted to share here. Hoping to start a conversation around whether or not we want to sponsor.

NERD Summit was started by the owner of a small Drupal company in Western, MA. They started as a Drupal-specific conference but have since branched out to any/all technologies. They don't charge students for entry to the conference and also allow people to opt-in to paying for entry to make the event accessible to those who may not be able to afford it. They're pushing for first-time/new speakers to give talks as they want to create a safe-space for people to try things out and practice their skills. They also have tracks/sessions for kids to intro them into programming through things like playing mine craft. Based on what I saw last year, I don't think they have too many people talking about open source geo, so in addition to sponsoring (if we decide to) we could potentially submit a talk. I'm thinking of doing something on PostGIS or leaflet myself. Let me know if there are any other questions.

Thanks,
Kayla

This sounds great, some questions:
- Can we get info about how many people attended last year?
- Do they have any demographic information they can share about the people attending?
- Would they be willing to share a little about their budget and plan for this year?

None of these things are blockers for me, the more information we can get, the better we can figure out how much to give.
